The privatization of public administration

An inquiry to the emerging market oriented trend.

The new trend in public governance created the “New pubic management”

(Falconer n.d.), a collective term primarily used to describe the market oriented

restructuring of public administration.

There is a clamor coming from the public sector that aims to re invent

governance by injecting business principles within thereby changing in the role of the

government in the public administration. In short the shift was an effort to provide a

complete system overhaul of the traditional public administration.

The shift to market oriented public administration is a result of the gradual

development and adaptation of the government to the needs of the current time and its

constituents. It provided the governance aspect the ability to reform itself.

The amalgamation of market concepts with public administration came during the

20th century at the advent of the growth of urban industrial nation. (Cox 1999) It was a

reactionary movement caused by the resulting problems from the increasing

industrialization and commercialization of states.

We can determine the existence of the privatization by examining the demands

of the people and the multiple reactionary changes in the governance structure.

A number of politicians and the public have been demanding from the 20 th

century up until today changes in the governance. People from highly industrialized

countries have pioneered changes in public administration, these include; that the

government run should be cost efficient. minimal in its task, competitive, entrepreneurial

and customer oriented. (Cox 1999)
