Course Introduction:
Supply chain management function continues to be evolved for the last two decades and has
become very challenging in the current global business context. This course is aimed at
discussing the role of next generation of professional in making supply chains sustainable and
the conundrum in making global supply chains sustainable.

Course Objectives:
Providing an overview of sustainable supply chain management in the context of triple bottom
line.
Challenges in implementing triple bottom line in supply chains.
Approaches to overcoming these challenges for improving the sustainability of supply chain
management.

Pedagogy:
Contrasting commitment and challenges of corporate leaders on sustainability and discussing
potential solutions.

* Final exam is an open book exam. One can use a laptop for writing the final exam and sending
the final file in MS Word format through email.

Attendance requirement:
100% attendance is required for the course. A student not meeting the attendance requirement will
not get credit for the course. Under specified exigent circumstances, the programme committee
can waive off attendance up to 25%.

About the instructor:


Amulya Gurtu is an Assistant Professor of Supply Chain Management at the Austin E. Cofrin
School of Business in the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay. He received his Ph.D. from
Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada in 2014, an M.B.A. from Western University, London,
Canada in 2007 and an M.S.(Engineering) from Bhopal University, India in 1995.

Dr. Gurtu teaches a variety of courses in the area of supply chain management. His research
interests include optimizing supply chains, global operations, and offshore outsourcing while
minimizing their impacts on the environment. His research is targeted towards optimization of

supply chains and global operations while including the triple bottom line of sustainability
(economic, environmental and social) for corporate organizations.

Dr. Gurtu is a Co-Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Sustainable Entrepreneurship


and Corporate Social Responsibility (IJSECSR), a publication of IGI Global. He is a manuscript
reviewer for the International Journal of Production Economics (Elsevier), the Journal of Cleaner
Production (Elsevier), the International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics
Management (Emerald), the Journal of Business Ethics (Springer).
