Section 1: Scope of Works
Precursor to work beginning
 Before commencing any activities on site all MICS Ltd installation personnel
will have received a CCEP / Consoveyo site induction.
 MICS ltd Personnel must understand CCEP / Consoveyo site rules that are in
place on this project.
 In this induction all details of access, egress, fire rules, and contact persons in
emergency are to be covered.
 MICS Ltd SMSTS qualifications to be shown to CCEP and Consoveyo site
management.
 All personnel would have received an approved a safety passport / CSCS card
and manual handling training recognised by the main contractor, certification
to be provided
 All relevant training certification for plant and proof of safety competency to be
shown at induction to Consoveyo
 Before any works commence all MICS Ltd RAMS will be read and signed by
all personnel, and discussed with the Consoveyo site manager to ensure all
parties have complete understanding.
 PPE requirement: Hard hat EN 397:2012 +A1:2012 , safety boots EN ISO
20345:2011 , high visibility vest EN 471:2003 as a minimum. + Additional
required as indicated in the risk assessment for certain tasks.
 MICS Ltd personnel will carry the necessary certification of competence to
operate any plant or equipment at all times.
 MICS Ltd will attend site and off load any plant / tools required for the project,
checking all documentation and suitability for the works.
 Review work area prior to starting works to ensure it is safe to undertake
works as detailed in the scope of works.
 Establish a good safe working area before commencing work; barriers
installed which are to be kept around the area to segregate from other
operations, the impact on fire routes and other personnel / contractors will be
assessed on site with the help of Consoveyo site management
 Good housekeeping at all times, keep all work areas clean and tidy.

crosshead

 MICS Ltd will supply all hand tools, power tools and lifting equipment for the
duration of the mechanical works.

Main Risks:
This document defines the procedures to be used when mechanically working on a

existing automated conveyor installation
It covers from arrival on site to the completed handed over project
The main risks arise from but are not limited to:-
a) The danger from moving parts.

b) The danger from moving loads.
c) The danger from entering restricted areas.
d) Working at a height.
f) The danger of falling objects.
g) The use of access equipment.
h) Manual handling.
i) Product being stored.
j) Using lifting equipment, Slings to be visually checked daily and report filled out.
k) Material Handling equipment working in the same area.
l) Breathing in particles of mineral wool and dust, minimum standard FFP3.
m) Other contractors / personnel working in the area.
Any Additional site specific risks can be added here
Procedures and actions necessary to either eliminate or reduce these risks to an

acceptable level are contained in Section 7 Risk Assessment.

Section 2: Schedule of Plant:

The following equipment may be used when carrying out this work, all inspection
documentation to be supplied to Consoveyo:
Hand Tools:
 These are to be the correct size and type, and be in a good state of repair.
Portable Electrical Tools: N/A

All electrical inspection certificated to be supplied to Consoveyo upon request
 All to be marked with the last and next PAT test electrical inspection date.
 110 Volt , hoover, leads, mitre saw, task light if needed
 18 v Makita impact gun, SDS drill, rip saw, 13mm chuck drill,
Forklift trucks: 3.5 ton gas CB FLT and 4 ton Telescopic handler
 Hired and delivered to site with a copy of the last inspection certificate
supplied to Consoveyo. Spill kit to be on plant
Access Equipment:
 20 m temporary life lines x 4 off
Lifting equipment:
Inspection certificated to be supplied to Consoveyo
 5 ton endless slings
 5.2 ton 4 leg chains
 4 ton lifting jib attachment
 8 ton bow shackles
 2 x 3000 kg toe jacks
 8 x 1000 kg 4 wheeled skates
Delivered to site with a copy of the last inspection certificate.
Additional slinger certs to be provided at induction.
ANY Additional tools or equipment require for the installation can be added
here

Section 3: The Installation process
The following procedures describe the methods for carrying out the installation
a) Only authorised personnel trained in the methods to be used are to

Carry out any work.
Do not attempt to carry out any duties not contained in these RAMS, if
in doubt ask!
b) Correct PPE must be worn at all times when in the work area
c) The site must be clean at all times
d) Unloading to be performed by MICS ltd personnel

e) The tools and work equipment will be escorted to an agreed laydown area
and cordoned off with pedestrian barriers supplied by Consoveyo
f) All MICS Ltd engineers to be site inducted prior to start of works

g) All MICS Ltd work at height will be conducted with the correct safety
equipment and PPE
Any other site specific rules or regulations needed prior to acceptance of

the RAMS can be added here

1.0 DELIVERIES TO SITE
1.1 All Deliveries need prior agreement with Consoveyo site Management
1.2 All deliveries to site must be met at the gate house and escorted to an
agreed unloading zone, the unloading is covered in MICS Ltd RAMS

The focus of this document is to:
Explain the Tasks required

Explain the risks involved with the Tasks
Wear the correct PPE suitable for the Task
Remove or Reduce the elements of risks so we can all work safely
2.0 MICS Ltd will attend site and sign in and out at the Security office and the
Consoveyo site office
2.1 MICS Ltd will transport all tools to the work area.
2.2 MICS Ltd will supply a RAMS for the tasks to be completed, Consoveyo will
approve the RAMS, MICS Ltd will get it read and signed by all operatives.
2.3 MICS Ltd site manager with Consoveyo site manager will access the work
area and make sure all necessary safety provisions are in place
2.4 Consoveyo will provide a permit to work, MICS Ltd will sign on and comply
with the conditions of this permit, this will be signed off either complete or
incomplete daily
Before any work commences Consoveyo will give permission to go ahead.
2.5 Task 1. Putting legs on the conveyor, the legs and feet are supplied
separately, these must be mechanically assembled prior to fitting to the
conveyor, gloves to be worn.
2.6 Task 2. De stacking the pallet conveyor, the conveyor comes with multiple
pieces in the same stack, these must be de stacked safely with the aid of a

3.5 ton CB FLT. The conveyor will be checked for square, qualified fork truck
driver, slinger banks men to assess the load and lifting technique
2.7 Task 3. Putting legs onto the conveyor, legs will be made ready for the
conveyor to be placed on top of the legs, these will be placed in the correct
position and bolted to the main frame, gloves to be worn
2.8 Task 4. Taking the legged conveyor from the tent to the lifting area in
dispatch, this will be done with the aid of a telescopic handler and the correct
lifting gear, the route will be assessed and any barriers required will be put in
place prior to work commencing, qualified fork truck driver, slinger banks
men to assess the load and lifting technique
2.9 Task 5. Lifting to the Input output mezzanines, an agreed cordoned off lifting
area will be put in place, the conveyors will be rigged and lifted to the
mezzanine floor, it will be placed onto skates
2.10 Task 6. Loading out the conveyors, the conveyor will be pushed to the
correct position as per the installation drawing, it will be jacked off the
skates, Access on the mezzanines will be made possible by the installation
of safety life lines 2 men maximum, operatives to be double clipped always,
work at height qualified, harness trained
2.11 Task 7. Protection of conveyor to the elements, the chain is pre-lubricated

and the motor is sealed, all components are rust protected, the addition of
plastic sheeting and gaffer tape to prevent water settling on the conveyors
will be sufficient. Additional lubrication if required? type needs to be agreed
and COSH assessment completed and implemented before use
2.12 MICS Ltd will snag the installation and hand over to Consoveyo for
inspection

Section 4: Personal Protective Equipment Required
Clean Hi viz vest’s to be worn at all times class EN 471
All personnel to wear clean safety boots and work wear at all times class EN 345.
Head protection to be worn at all times when inside the construction site class EN
397.

inspected and in date, these are for rescue purposes only please see rescue plan

reciprocation saw

Section 5 Demarcation Requirements
The work area is a permit controlled area non-essential personnel are not allowed into
the work area at any time

Section 6 First Aid and Emergency Procedures

The standard on site provision of a first aid box, with the availability of a First Aider
Lewis Campkin in the site Team is sufficient for these activities.
In the event of a fall from a height the casualty should only be moved by the
emergency services. In the event of other life threatening situation developing then
appropriate action to be taken with the available resources.
The installation team will notify the Consoveyo management on site immediately to
raise the alarm
Reporting and recording of accidents will be carried out in accordance with

R.I.D.D.O.R.
Consoveyo accident book must be filled in and near misses reported

MICS Ltd site accident book must be filled in and near misses reported

CCEP fire alarm and evacuation routes with assembly points will be covered at the
site induction meeting or in the clients Health & Safety Instructions for contractors
and must be observed at all times.

Manual Handling
Risk: Back Injury do to lifting equipment 4 x 6 = 24

Action: Each lift must be assessed by the supervisor, all personnel must be 1x6= 6
trained aware of the Manual Handling Regulations. If a piece of
equipment can be lifted with a piece of Manual Handling Equipment it
must be used. Cost is not an excuse

Lifting Equipment
Risk: Lifting Equipment In bad condition 6 x 6 = 36
Action: Lifting Equipment must be inspected daily, inspection sheet to be filled 1 x 6 =6
in, inspected before each use and have in date thorough inspection
certificates these must supplied to Winvic and TGW they must be on
site and available for inspection. If any Lifting Equipment is found to be
damaged in any way or out of date it must be Immediately disposed of.
As per LOLER regulations 1998
Risk: Falling goods due to unsafe loading or overweight loading. 5 x 6 = 30

Action: Ensure goods are safely loaded with no overweight overloading .All 1x6= 6
goods to be secured at all times. Never exceed the Safe Working Load,
which is marked on all lifting equipment.
Ensure all loads are secured by slings which are fitted by a competent
and trained person
Working at Height
Risk: Access Equipment In bad condition 6 x 6 = 36
Action: Access Equipment must be inspected before each use and have in 1x6=6
date thorough inspection certificates these must be on site and
available for inspection. If any Access Equipment is found to be
damaged in any way or out of date it must be Immediately removed off
site of.
Individual inspection sheets must be filled in daily and kept on the
equipment
Risk: Use of Access equipment 5 x 6 = 30

Action: Only trained persons to use access equipment. 1x6= 6
Segregate and barrier areas to stop unauthorised access
Visual inspection prior to use.

Hired in plant risks
All Plant to have an in date LOLER inspection / service certificate, these items must be
inspected weekly on the MICS Ltd plant inspection sheets, all plant to have site ID , contact
number and additional immobilizer fitted i.e chain and padlock to ensure MICS Ltd plant
insurance compliance
Risk: Unlicensed operator Driving the hired in plant. 6 x 6 = 36

Action: Only authorized and licensed plant drivers will operate the plant. The 1x6= 6
correct license for plant to be used must be with the operator
Risk: Falling goods due to unsafe loading or overweight loading. 5 x 6 = 30

Action: Ensure goods are safely loaded with no overweight overloading .All 1x6= 6
goods to be secured at all times.
Risk: Wrapping materials falling from the plant or snagging on other objects. 5 x 5 = 25
Action: Ensure no loose materials hanging from the plant remove or make 1x5= 5
secure.
Risk: Injury to persons working or moving in the area of the plant. 6 x 6 =36
Action: Unauthorized persons to be cleared from the working area. Pedestrian 1x6= 6
barrier the area and display warning notices. Persons within the
working are to proceed with caution.
Risk: Injury to persons while transporting goods on the fork lift. 6 x 6 = 36

Action: The forklift to be escorted by a banksman on foot and giving previously 1x6= 6
agreed hand signals and audible commands and warnings. Forklift
trucks to be fitted with warning lights.
Risk: Fork lift load becoming insecure or unstable during movements. 6 x 6 = 36

Action: Stop the fork lift and make the goods secure and stable before 1x6= 6
proceeding any further.
Risk: Damage to lifting equipment. 6 x 6 = 36

Action: Check inspection certificate before using. 1x6= 6
Inspect chains/ropes/strops/ shackles for damage before and after
using.

Unloading of plant or skips
Risk: Plant moving or becoming unstable when they are being unloaded from 6 x 6 = 36
the vehicle.
Action: Unload the vehicle in a way that keeps the vehicle as evenly balanced 1 x 6= 6
as possible.
Risk: Unloading on uneven or sloping ground. 6 x 6 = 36

A suitable unloading area should be selected and agreed with the site 1x6= 6
Action: representative during the site survey. Site rules will be followed when
accessing the vehicles
Unloading / Storage area
Risk: Collapsing or unstable materials in the unloading/storage area. 6 x 6 = 36

Action: Materials should be stored in the largest area possible avoiding 1x6= 6
stacking or limit stacking as much as possible. Store or stack materials
neatly and as stable as possible. Do not store materials by leaning
them against other stored materials.
Risk: Restricting or preventing access to emergency exits, fire alarms, 6 x 6 = 36

emergency service equipment or power supply points.
Action: Do not store materials near emergency exits, fire alarms, emergency 1x6= 6
service equipment or power supply points. Do not impede clear access
along walk way / gangways.

Handling Materials
Risk: Injury when cutting steel banding or cutting shrink-wrapping. 4 x 6 = 24

Action: Wear safety eye protection and protective gloves when cutting 1x6= 6
banding, or cutting shrink-wrapping. wear gloves at all times
Risk: Back strain or pulled muscles caused by lifting. 4 x 6 = 24

Action: Use correct lifting technique in accordance with Health and Safety 1x6= 6
Regulations. Ensure sufficient persons are available to safely lift,
manoeuvre and transport a load or item into position with the aid of 4-
wheeled trolleys and other mechanical aids. Also to hold regular
toolbox talks on manual handling techniques.
Risk: Injury to other persons when carrying or lifting long loads or items. 6 x 6 = 36
Action: Use more than one person and / or the correct lifting equipment. 1 x 6= 6
Risk: Injury to bystanders in the dismantling or storage area. 6 x 6 = 36

Action: Clear all unauthorized persons from the area, pedestrian barrier off and 1 x 6= 6
display warning signs.
Tools- Electrical
Risk: Electric shock from tools. 6 x 6 = 36

Action: All tools to be PAT tested and labelled or tagged by an approved 1x6= 6
electrician on a regular basis. PAT Test certificates will be made
available for inspection prior to commencement of work
Only 110 Volt tools or cordless tools shall be used.
Unplug leads before wrapping them up.
Only qualified electricians should attempt to remedy faults.
Check all leads before and after using.
Risk: Tripping over trailing electric leads causing tools being used to 6 x 6 = 36
Injure the user.
Action: Use the nearest power point to avoid leads being trailed further than 1 x 6= 6
necessary.
Avoid if possible trailing leads over walkways/gangways.
Switch off equipment not being used and unplug if it is no longer
required. Put all unused tools away after use
Risk: Sparks from cold cut saw blade and sabre saw blade. 6 x 6 = 36
Action: The blade should be changed immediately. 2x6= 6

Risk: Injury to eyes and face from sparks and flying debris. 5 x 6 = 30
Action: Wear safety goggles when grinding / drilling holes and clothe all parts 1x6= 6
of the body.
Risk: Injury to passers-by from sparks or flying debris. 5 x 6 = 30

Action: Immediate area to be cleared of unauthorized persons and adjacent 2x6= 6
workers to wear safety goggles.
Hand Tools
Risk: Injury caused by treading on or tripping over tools left unattended. 5 x 6 = 30

Unattended tools being run over by fork lift truck, skates or scissors lift
and being spun round or flipped up.
Action: All tools to be stored in a tool box/case or tool pouch. 1x6= 6
Risk: Cut hands from tools. 4 x 6 = 24

Use gloves when practicable. Use tools designed to do the task in 1x6= 6
hand.
Do not use unsuitable or damaged tools.
Risk: Injury through over exertion causing the tool to slip and cause cuts or 4 x 6 = 24
abrasions.
Action: Use a tool designed for the task and wear protective gloves if 1x6= 6
practicable.
Risk: Vibration control. 4 x 6 = 24

Action: Monitor usage, and work to HSE guidelines when SDS drill and nut are 1 x 6= 6
runners in use

Everyday risks
Risk: Silica and debris entering eye or being inhaled while drilling 4 x 6 = 24
Bolt holes for the conveyor legs.
Action: Wear safety goggles and dust mask FFP3, use vacuum cleaner while 1x6= 6
drilling.
Risk: Damage to hearing 4 x 6 = 24

Action: Noise assessment prior to works commencing 1x6= 6
Wear hearing protection whenever SDS drill and impact gun is being
used
Risk: Lack of safety experiences 6 x 6 = 36

Action: All workers to be experienced and will show proof of safety 1x6= 6
competency at induction
Risk: Working close to 3rd parties 6 x 6 = 36

Action: Ensure all activities are segregated from others entering and 1x6= 6
endangering themselves.
Signage to be posted warning of dangers as required

Hearing protection to be worn
Risk: Dropping / falling accessories and bolts when work being carried out 6 x 6 = 36

Action: Carry bolts in a pouch and all items to be roped and hoisted into 1x6= 6
position if a scissors lift cannot be used. All tools to be tethered to the
individual Persons working below should wear safety helmets and
avoid working within the immediate working area should be barrier off
with Heras fence
Risk: Back strain or pulled muscles while lifting, positioning the conveyors. 4 x 6 = 24
Action: Use correct lifting technique in accordance with Health and Safety 1x6= 6
Regulations. Use Mechanical Handling Aids for lifting where possible.
Risk: Cuts from sharp edges. 4 x 6 = 24

Action: Wear protective gloves and overalls when handling and fitting the 1x6= 6
conveyors. Correct PPE must be used at all times
Housekeeping
Risk: Dust causing Irritation to eyes, skin or breathing difficulty caused by 4 x 6 = 24

inhalation.
Action: Avoid dust build up by regular vacuuming. 1x1= 1
Wear mask if sweeping up dust or debris. Damp down the area if
possible.
Risk: Injury caused by tripping over packing materials and waste conveyor 6 x 6 = 36
parts.
Action: All litter, packaging and waste parts should be disposed of in a suitable 1x1= 1
waste bin or skip as soon as possible.
Risk: Fire hazard conditions with flammable debris. 6 x 6 = 36

Action: Ensure all flammable debris is disposed of as quickly as possible in the 1x1= 1
correct waste disposal container.

SECTION 1 SCOPE OF WORK
