PCC, Your Perfect Cycling Companion
The week ahead – M + D Sunday ride 19 Sep 2010
Mud & Dirt (MTB) by The English Nose
Well it’s the end of the holiday season after the influx
of public holidays and come Monday the usual traffic
jams will be plaguing the city once more. Never mind
all that, we have the weekend to look forward to!
Hope it’s been a good holiday for one and all. Just
keeping things simple this Sunday with a nice ride at
FRIM.
MEET AT THE HOSPITAL SIDE – NOT CHINESE TEMPLE.
Weekend MTB Ride – FRIM
Date: Sunday, 19th Sept 2010
Meeting Time: 7.30am
Meeting Place: Old Sg Buloh Hospital Leper Centre car park
Ride Distance: 20km +/‐
Ride Description: A combination of well‐kept forest tracks and technical single tracks with some nice big hills to
work your lungs. As 70% of the ride will be on technical singletracks, the ride is not suitable for
beginners.
How to Get There:
If coming from MRR2/Kepong, head towards Sg. Buloh on Jalan Sg. Buloh. Follow this road for about 4km and keep eye out
for turn off for the PLUS highway. Go past this turn off.
If coming from PJ on the LDP, Penchala Link: go past Mutiara Damansara and through toll. Keep left and turn left towards Sg.
Buloh on Jalan Sg. Buloh. Follow this road for about 4km and keep eye out for turn off for the PLUS highway. Go past this
turn off.
If coming from the North/South PLUS Highway, turn off at the Sg. Buloh exit and turn left towards Sg. Buloh after toll.
Now we should all be on the same road.
500m later you come to a fly over junction. Stay in the left hand lanes but don’t turn left. Follow signs to the Hospital over
the fly‐over that turns right.
Follow this for about 2km through 2 sets of traffic lights until you see the main hospital building on the right. Look for PKKN
on left turn over a bridge. Park in the open car park. The ride will start from here.
An easy trail with gentle climbs in secondary jungle. Mostly under tree canopy all very rideable. Chance to re‐fuel and talk
cock at the FRIM Café ½ way through. Suitable for all levels of riders.

The week ahead – T + G Sunday ride 19 Sept 2010
Sunday Road Ride by Don Chan
It’s time to burn off some calories what with all that lovely food we’ve been having of late. With a high chance of rain this
Sunday, let’s start somewhere nearby to avoid driving far away just to get washed out.
We’re headed to Puncak Alam. It’s been a while, so we’ll leave out the Dragon’s Back for now. Even then, we still have
to tackle 5 climbs so do pace yourself.
Route A is suitable for fit, road‐savvy newbies & riders making a comeback after a long layoff. Route B is for all other
riders (yes, that includes you!!!)…. It’s time to burn, baby! ETA for Route B is before 11am.
Weekend Road Ride – Puncak Alam
Date: Sunday, 19th Sept 2010
Meeting Time: 7.30am sharp
(please be there 15minutes before start)
Start/ End: Centrepoint, Bandar Utama, PJ
GPS: N03° 8.299’ E101° 36.627’
Route: Options A: CP‐Kota D’Sara‐ Kg Subang‐ Guthrie Corridor (GC)‐ U‐turn at Sg Buloh exit‐ Kg Subang exit‐
Kota D’Sara‐ Tropicana‐ CP (42km)
Option B: CP‐Kota D’Sara‐ Kg Subang‐ GC‐ Persiaran K.Selangor‐ Puncak Alam‐ Regroup at Restaurant
Bukit Cerakah‐ Kg Subang‐ Kota D’Sara‐ Tropicana‐ CP (73km)
Safety issues: The roads are in pretty good nick. Ride single‐filed, especially up Puncak Alam & Guthrie. Traffic can be
heavy as we turn right into Kota D’Sara, so cross carefully. Riders who are new to peloton‐riding are
encouraged to ride at the back of the pack. If you think u r lost, stop & wait for the next rider or sweeper
to come along. If you bring a new friend along, please accompany him/ her along the ride. It’s more fun
& encouraging for newbies to have a Ride Buddy with them.
Things to bring: Spare tube, pump, 2 water bottles, some energy bars, $, hand phone & helmet.
Ride leader: Don (017 883 0538) See yuh Sunday!

With the hills waiting for us right
ahead, we paced ourselves going into Loop 4.
Those lovely singletracks are still very much intact.
Maybe it was because the trail was relatively dry
or we were still fresh from just riding 10km, the
hills were all very rideable! But as Gerard pointed
out, no way we could ride them if we were doing
the full Presidential. He had a point there….

‐ Slower moving traffic stays to the left; faster traffic to the right. Never
overtake on the left of the group!
‐ Pass slower moving vehicles on the right; announce your intention to do

Announce hazards
‐ Most cyclists do not have a full view of the road while riding in a group
‐ Announce potholes and other hazards so others can avoid them
‐ Call out the hazard and point down to it, either left or right. No need to
yell like a maniac tho.
Watch for traffic from the rear
‐ The last rider should frequently check for overtaking cars
‐ Announce "car back" clearly and loudly
‐ It is also helpful to announce "car up" on narrow roads or when riding
two abreast
Watch out at intersections
‐ Leader should announce slowing or stopping at intersections, if necessary
‐ Cyclists should not follow others through intersections without first
looking for themselves

Guidelines to Mountain Bike Trail Etiquette
FROM VARIOUS SOURCES IN RELATION TO SHARED TRAILS AND NON BIKE SPECIFIC TRAILS.
PERSONAL SAFETY
1. Wear a brain bucket (yes..that’s a helmet) whenever you ride.
2. Do not travel into remote areas without informing others
3. Ride within your capabilities. Ensure that if you want to push your limits, your buddies are around to support you.
4. Know your bike and bring the necessary/essential spares.
RIGHT OF WAY IN RELATION TO OTHERS (NON RIDERS)
1. Give way to non motorised trail users, i.e. hikers, horse riders, because people judge all cyclist by my actions.
2. Give way to motorised trail users, i.e. motor cross bikes etc, because generally we will end up worse off in a an accident.
3. Alert others when approaching. Get a bell, or “Excuse me” works quite well.
RIGHT OF WAY IN RELATION TO OTHER RIDERS.
4. Riders have the right of way. If you are pushing your bike, leave the riding line open for others to go past.
5. Rider up hill has the right of way.
6. Allow faster riders to past
SPEED
1. Approach turns and bends in anticipation that there’s someone there.
2. Make your presence know when approaching someone or any turns.
IMPACT ON THE TRAIL
3. Leave the wildlife and fauna alone. Magic mushrooms are bad for you.
4. Stay on designated trails and avoid destroying vegetation if possible
5. Don’t take short cuts over/around technical sections. If you can’t ride it, walk it.
6. Learn how to use your front brakes so that you minimise skidding your rear wheel. If you refuse to learn, then ride only in bike parks where people are
paid to maintain the trails.
7. Do not litter. Take out whatever you take in.
8. Practise minimal impact riding, take only photos and memories with you.
FUN
9. You are to have loads of fun, talk lots of cog, and make good friends on your ride.
10. Develop of sense of humour. Some people say it’s good for the soul.
