Abstract

The sewage disposal by the sewage pipelines brings a range of risks for environmental safety of air, water, and soil environments in settlements. Thus formation and emission of gas compounds from sewer nets through shafts and manholes pollute the atmosphere in residential areas has reached culmination. According to the World Health Organization, 2.5 billion people around the globe are without access to sanitary toilets, which results in the spread of deadly diseases. Every year, 1.5 million people mostly those under the age of five die from diarrheal disease. Life expectancy correlates to the accessibility of clean water and proper sanitation practices.

Problem Statement:-

To

develop an unique ,self sustainable-solar-powered portable toilet which targets to enhance

the sanitation standards as well as will have the added benefit of turning waste

into fuel.

The human waste is stored in a septic holding tank and then a photovoltaic or solar panel,

converts the sun’s rays into enough energy to power an electrochemical reactor that has been

designed to break down water and human waste material into hydrogen gas. The hydrogen gas can then be stored in hydrogen fuel cells to provide a backup energy source for night time

operation or for use under low-sunlight

conditions.

Functions:-

Septic Holding

Tank:- It facilitates sewage storage and helps to separate solid sludge and scum

to be used as fertiliser.

Electrochemical Reactor:-This technology helps us to harness hydrogen or methane from organic material by applying electric current. The electrogenic micro-organisms release protons and proton upon application of electric potential. The flow of protons takes place through a proton exchange membrane (Nafion Membrane) to a cathode side which then reduces it to hydrogen.

Solar Panel:- The process of converting sunlight to electrical energy is one that has improved dramatically over the last few decades due to invention silicon stacked solar power cells.

Rechargeable Lithium Ion Battery:- A lithium-ion battery or Li-ion battery is a type of rechargeable battery in which lithium ions move from the negative electrode to the positive electrode during discharge and back when charging. The electrolyte, which allows for ionic movement, and the two electrodes are the constituent components of a lithium-ion battery cell.

Particle Filter:- They are usually used to purify the fluid rather than capture the solids as a valuable material.

Cost Table:-

The cost has been calculated for considering an establishment catering to a community of 300 people.
