Indeed, its with great anticipation that | submit myself as a candidate and look to @ day nthe very near future during which | will engage in an interview. Unt then, | offer the following details as demonstration of my competencies, My career in ths field began twenty-five years ago as a paraprofessional in the Boston Public Schools. It was an opportunity that | have never forgotten and an ‘opportunity that secured my belief in the importance of equity. Soon after, joined the SPS as a toacter in a substantially separate program when the O'Donnell Middle Schoo! fst incorporated grade six and taught everything from Adaptive Dally Living to rudimentary math. | learned how to address the various complexities students and families who live with significant challenges must confront. This five year period then led to a two year period during which f co-taughtin the Inclusion setting. From this experience, | grew a deeper understanding of content-driven instruction and learned how to implement differentiated instruction; making such content accessible to all learners. ‘As SPS's needs changed, | assumed the role of k-12 Faeiltator and then my current role as the Assistant Director of Special Education and Out-of-District Coordinator. For the past eight years, in addition to meeting the needs of students ‘and families across a broad spectrum, | have served as an active member of the ‘SPS Trauma Task Force, Round Table, District Crisis Team, and numerous Hiring Committees, | have also been responsible for the development of increasing the pre-k programming, Circuit Breaker, staff observations & evaluations, and contact with vital outside agencies such as the Department of Children and Families. | have acquired a strong understanding of legal aspects of Special Education and have advised teachors, as well as SPS administrators, in need of assistance navigating such waters, ‘As a veteran employee of the SPS, | have been an integral member of our supportive leaming community; a community that allows all children to learn, to ‘engage in new endeavors, to make friendships, and to strive to reach thei full potential, During my tenure as Assistant Director, | have revealed strong ‘organizational skils, attention to detail, creativity, and a calm disposition. These have been paramount in overseeing the academic plans for our students in out of district placements and while we developed a robust in -dstrict pre-K program. ‘ditionally, my skill set has served the students, families, and my SPS colleagues:
