What’s it about?
This year, your child will be challenged to read 30 books. These books can be read at home or
school. The goal is create a love for reading that lasts a lifetime.

How does it work?

You student will track their progress in their Reader’s Notebook. Each time they finish a book,
they will categorize the genre and add it to their list.

Wednesday: dismissal is at 1:30.
Our first recess is at 10:15 and lunch recess begins at
11:45. We highly encourage you to pack your child a
healthy snack. It is also beneficial to send your child to
school with a water bottle. Thank you for your help!
What is a Nut Caution Zone?
● All families are asked to not send any peanut
products in lunches or snacks.
● There will be a structure in place to ensure that
there is limited food in classrooms and no products
with any known allergens will be consumed in
classrooms
● All students with food allergies will sit at an allergy
free table in the cafeteria

Room Parent
This is a very important person in our
classroom. The Room Parent is primarily in
charge of organizing classroom and
school-wide events. This includes notifying
parents of upcoming events and requesting
donations of food, drinks, etc.
Volunteers
Parent volunteers are encouraged to help
in and out of our classroom. As we settle
into our routines I will communicate
opportunities via newsletter or email. If you
are going to volunteer on a field trip, you
MUST to be fingerprinted through Westlake
Charter.
To celebrate your child’s birthday we use a “Birthday in a Bag”. It will be

sent home with instructions, as the birthday approaches, to fill with special

treats and trinkets for your child only. You can send the bag with your child

on their birthday (or the day closest to it). The lucky birthday kid will get to

open the bag before heading out to recess or lunch.

✘ All families should have received a School Dismissal Manager
email with login information
✘ Families must login on a computer to set their student’s
default dismissal.
○ Default dismissal can be set for the year, by month, week,
or daily.
✘ Please try to have your child’s dismissal information as
accurate as possible!

will pick up BASE
students from
our classroom. Independent Walkers/Bikes
Students must have a light
blue tag and be picked up by
a 4-8 grade sibling (with a
dark blue tag) from their
classroom. Then exit the
Maybrook gate, walk up to
Mabry, or Down to Club
Center, and cross all streets
using a crosswalk.
Parent Pick Up
Parents are asked to
enter through the back
gates (not from the
front) and wait outside
classroom doors. Then
exit through Walking
School Bus or
Maybrook gate.
This MUST be set on
School Dismissal Manager
for your child to be
released with an older
sibling.

Walking School Bus
Student will be sent from
classroom to Walking
School Bus gate where they
will meet Mrs. Wells. They
must have a yellow
backpack tag. The Walking
School Bus will meet
parents at Burberry Park.
Car Pick Up
Student will wait safely in class
until their ride arrives in the
parking lot. Drivers will have
student placard showing on
their dashboard and follow the
direction of WCS staff at the
front of the school. Teachers
and students will be notified
through our dismissal
management system and be
sent to their pick up zone when
you arrive.
