• Final exam 10%

Letter grades are based on the following scale:

• 90% - 100% A
• 80% - 89% B 70% - 100% S(atisfactory)
• 70% - 79% C
• 60% - 69% D 0% - 69% U(nsatisfactory)
• 0% - 59% F

All graded activities are listed under Assignments in Canvas. Late work will not
be accepted and a score of zero will be recorded. There is a special policy for
SAM activities in MyGermanLab (see next section).

Homework – SAM Activities in MyGermanLab

This homework is assigned and submitted in the SAM (Student Activities Manual)
located in the publisher’s website MyGermanLab. Due dates are indicated in the
MyGermanLab assignment calendar and the schedule at the end of this syllabus.
The submission deadline is 11:59 pm Mountain Time. Late submissions will
have to be accepted by the instructor. None will be accepted after the last day of
the chapter. Each exercise will be limited to 5 attempts; the highest score will be
recorded in MyGermanLab. These scores will help you ascertain where you
might need additional help from the instructor. The actual credit you receive for
your semester grade is explained below.

At the end of the period allotted for a chapter, the instructor will count the number
of the SAM activities completed and divide this by the number of total
assignments. Example: 25 completed out of 25 assigned equals 100%. These
averages of completed SAM assignments will be counted part of the homework
portion of the semester grade.

The additional course materials “Readiness Check,” “Chapter Resources,”

“Additional Practice,” and “Grammar Powerpoints” will be available on an
unlimited basis, but will not count as part of the homework portion of the
semester grade.

Homework – Writing Assignments in Canvas

For each chapter there is a writing assignment posted under “Assignments.” See
individual postings for content and format instructions.

Chapter Oral Assessments – Canvas and Skype

For each chapter there are practice and graded oral assessments posted under
“Assignments.” See individual postings for content and format instructions.

E-mail the instructor with your Skype username so it can be added to the class
contact list.

Skype video chat appointments must be requested in the Canvas “K__ Oral
Assessment” text entry box and set by the deadline indicated in the syllabus
schedule. The appointments should take place within designated the time frame.

Chapter Tests – Erste Kontakte in Canvas, K1 – K4 in MyGermanLab

At the end of each chapter a test will be posted. There will be a 72-hour period in
which to log in and take the test. Each test will be timed for 3 hours. The test
must be completed and submitted within the 72-hour period. There are 3
attempts allowed; the highest score will be recorded.
