In learning language, one of the aspects that should be improved is
reading. In daily life, it is very important to get information from every reading
passage, especially in learning English. Learning English focuses on four skills
namely: listening, writing, reading, speaking. The four skills must be mastered by
the students to be able to master english properly. However, many problems are
faced by teachers and students in teaching and learning English, such as in
reading. The difficulties faced by students are such as especially in
comprehending text, low enthusiasm, and uninteresting strategy applied by
teacher. To solve the problem, the researcher use appropriate jeopardy game to
teach reading. Jeopardy Game is fun a game like any fun quiz in general. So the
students can be enthuasistic to answer in quiz session. Game is one of effective
media in learning English. Games helps students on how to interact with their
classmates.
The research conducted at the second grade of SMA Kristen Petra Malang.
The objective of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of jeopardy game in
students’ reading comprehension on descriptive text. The design of the research
was experimental design use quasi experimental. The sample of the study was two
groups, those were experimental and control group. The instruments that were
used in this study were test and questionnaire. In analyzing the data, the researcher
used validity, reliability, normality, homogeneity, and indepenent sample T test.
The result of the data showed that the mean score from experimental group
was higher than control group. The mean score of control group was 67.5714
while the experimental group was 88.5714. The minimum score from
experimental group is 80.00 and from control group 61.00. And the maximum
score from experimental group was 100.00 while the maximum score from control
group was 76.00. The t-test showed that the significance (2-tailed) was 0,000, it
less than 0,05. It means that hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and (Ho) is rejected. So
the students who are taught by using jeopardy game have a significance difference
in their reading comprehension on descriptive texts.
