constant throughout the Australian Curriculum.

• Word Walls/Word Banks- having a place where students can refer

back to when writing assignments or reading.

• Identifying challenging words- think about the unit, topic or text you
are about to teach. What might be some stumble words to stop
students accessing what they are about to learn?
Oral Language
DEFINE: Oral language is about
developing skills in listening and
speaking

• Provide opportunities for students to hear the words so it can help

them access the word at a print level. Read a subject-specific text
aloud. If watching a movie or YouTube, use subtitles. Sneaky reading!

• Opportunities for students to do more oral language assessments.

• Providing space for students to have some relevant subject-specific

conversations.
