Introduction

Education has always emphasize on academic results and that’s the reason why students perform
very well in schools however, some students are not able to compete with other students, and emotional
intelligence and self-efficacy are the big factors for the students on getting school achievements. Emotional
intelligence (EI) is defined as “ability to monitor one’s own and other people’s emotions, to discriminate
between different emotions and to use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior.” It refers to
the capacity to be aware of, control, express one’s emotion and handle interpersonal relationships
judiciously and empathetically. Emotional intelligence is also known as EQ or emotional quotient and it is
one of the key on being successful in both personal and professional success, they are being intertwined
with emotional intelligent, this is the way on how you will control your emotion in a specific or certain
situation. On the other hand, according to Miriam Akhtar, self-efficacy or commonly known as confidence
is one of the most enabling psychology models, it is been adopted into positive psychology. It is the
optimistic self-belief in our own competence or chances of successfully accomplishing a task and producing
a favorable outcomes.

Student emotional intelligence and self-efficacy plays a major role in how one approaches goals,
tasks, and challenges in their personal and academic performance and attainments. Differences in race,
ethnicity, gender, family background, language, sexual orientation, and religion as well as differences in
ability can surely affect their emotional intelligence and self-efficacy may it be good or bad for the students.
There is a strong relation between behavior of an individual and their emotional intelligence, students
having low emotional intelligence tend to have difficulties in communicating with their peers and even with
their family members with regards to their school performance and attainments. This is all due to lacking
of managing their emotions properly whereas students who have developed larger emotional intelligence
and self-efficacy able to balance and handle challenges that education brings to them. According to BMC
Medical Association, studies have found that emotional intelligence or EI is related to academic and
professional success and contributes to individual cognitive-based performance over and above the level
attributable to general intelligence. The beliefs of self-efficacy upon preferences and choice, level of
attempt, the anxiety experienced, persistency, the difficulties and belief that the losing should bear an
informative role for the recovery feedback or may act as destructive factor. (Bandra, 1986) The people with
weaker level of self-efficacy take the assignments hander then what they truly are which only results to
sickness, depression and a limited view in problem solving. (Pajares, 2002).

The study will be benefited to all students and teachers who are experiencing and suffering from
this kind of difficulties in their own emotional intelligence and self-efficacy. This will be big help for them
to improve their school performance and attainments. This will also develop and improve their learning
abilities and capabilities in handling their own skills.

The researcher of the study will be focusing on the students’ emotional intelligence and self-
efficacy and how they deal with academics despite of being stress, depress, having emotional dilemma and
all the problems that can be related to their personal and academic issues and purposes. The purpose of this
paper is to discuss how self-efficacy develop and how it influences the students’ academic performance and
attainments in addition to social interaction and how they overcome it. The study will represent various
data, information, studies and literatures from different authors and writers, thus, it will give a broad further
explanations about this study, albeit, the research will be also presenting data that has been gathered by the
researcher through the use of instruments that will help in order to justify and answer the said research
study.
