When 19 Year Old Girl Made 214 Against England

On 17th August 2002, A Young 19 year old girl smashed Scintillating 214
against England which was then the highest individual Women’s Test
Score.The Girl is None other than our very own ODI captain Mithali Raj.

Mithali’s 214 was the Fifth Double Century in Women’s Test Cricket,Her
Century came off in 407 balls withstanding 598 minutes which includes
19 Boundaries. Mithali received a standing ovation when announcement
was made at Taunton.

Mithali was too escalated when approaching that milestone landmark,


She Said “I crossed that mark nervously by scoring off the last ball
bowled on the third day,” However her innings made her the first Indian
Women to score a Double century in test bettering Sandhya Agarwal’s
190 against England at Worcester way back in 1986

In that Match, India made record score of 467 runs in first innings
replying to England’s 329.Her knock was supported by then Indian
skipper Anjum Chopra who scored 52 and assisted by few other players
like Hemalata Kala and Jhulan Goswami, both making 62 runs
respectively. The four day match was ended in a draw and also the two
match series had ended in a draw as the both teams failed to win.
Mithali’s partnership of 157 for seventh wicket with Jhulan Goswami was
also a World Record back then.

Mithali was promised by the Team Manager that she will get 370 rupees
if she scores a century. But received 740 Rupees making the sweetest gift
in her cricketing career.
