Course Syllabus: Modern World History


Fall 2018/Spring 2019

Course Description:
In Modern World History, learners will be introduced to world connections. The textbook used
for this course is History Alive! World Connections. Students will receive a copy on the first day
of class in which they must keep at home. There will be a class set for students to use at school.
Additionally, students will create a student account at www.teachtci.com where they can also
access an electronic version of the textbook.

Suggested School Supplies:


It is recommended that the following materials are brought daily to aid in student success.
• pencils/erasers • a pocket folder
• dark blue or blank ink pens • highlighters (yellow, blue, orange)
• lined binder paper

Class Requirements:
This class entails a conscientious commitment to (1) appropriate, engaging, and thoughtful
behavior/participation in class (2) timely completion of all assignments to elicit effective
facilitator feedback (3) courteous and respectful behavior towards all learners and facilitators.

Grading Policies/Scoring:
All assignments to be turned in-person should have a name, date, and period number.

Attendance Policy:
Attendance will be taken as soon as class starts. Learners are required to be in their seats with the
required materials prepared to learn. Learners who are in the classroom, but not in their seats
once class starts will be considered tardy. Excessive absences can lower your grade via
participation points.

Smart Phone, Laptop, and all other Electronic Devices:


The use of smart phones, laptops, and other personal digital assistant devices during class is
prohibited, unless otherwise approved and indicated by facilitator. When class is in session be
certain to shut these devices off or put on quiet mode.

Make-up Work:
When learners have excused absences, they are responsible for getting the missing assignments
from the facilitator and/or on Jupiter Ed.
