Welcome to Western World Social Studies! I am looking forward to embarking on this journey
with you. This year we will be exploring the ancient and modern histories of Mexico, Central
America, The Caribbean, South America, North America, Early Europe, and Modern Europe. We
will begin the year with an introduction to geography and continue to discuss geography
throughout the year.

Required Materials (MUST be brought to class everyday)

 Textbook: Western World
 Single Subject Notebook
 Pocket Folder
 Pencils
 Blue or Black Pens
 Colored Pencils
 Hi-liters

Expectations
 BE RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, & RESOURCEFUL
 Students will respect everyone in the class at all times
 Students must be on time, in their seats, and prepared with ALL required materials
when class begins
 Wear your ID at all times
 If you are absent, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to ask for the work missed
 If you are absent on the day of a test, you will be expected to take it the day you return
unless you are absent for multiple days or prior arrangements are made
 In addition, all school policies as stated in the code of conduct must be followed
o Failure to comply with expectations will result in disciplinary action
Plagiarism and Copying

Plagiarism is zero tolerance. If copying occurs on an assignment, ALL people involved will
receive a zero on the assignment, a phone call home, a detention, and a referral. If copying
occurs during a quiz, test, or from another source (plagiarism), the person who copies will
receive a zero on the quiz or test, a phone call home, a detention, and a referral.

Grading Policy

Grading will follow the WCS guidelines. Assessments (tests, quizzes, and projects) will be worth
75% of your overall grade. Homework (in-class and take-home) will be worth 25% of your
overall grade. Your overall grade will be calculated using a point system.
 Late work will be accepted up until the day of the chapter or unit test (whichever is
first). Late work will receive a grade of no more than 75%
 Test corrections are available when necessary
 ALL ASSESSMENTS below a 75% will require a parent signature
o Failure to do so will result in a 5 point deduction from the student’s overall grade

Extra Help

If you feel like you need extra help and have been putting in full effort in class and at home
(participating in discussions, completing assignments on time, and are coming prepared), please
see me to set up a time to review material!

We are a team in this class! Effort is required from the teacher and students. I will do my part
to ensure your learning experience is successful as possible, but you must do your part as a
responsible student by providing the necessary effort and dedication to be successful!
