Speeding up
Slowing down

North and South x2

Poles of a magnet x2
Opposite poles attract x2
Like poles repel x2

In a parachute
Air resistance
What a drag!
Slows you down

When two objects

Rub together
Heat is generated
Because of friction

Forces are vectors

They need directions
Change speed
Use an arrow

Song Title: ALL ABOUT US

Tune: Heads, Shoulder Knees and Toes
Key Stage One/Two: 1A OURSELVES/4A MOVING AND GROWING
Written by: Sarah Buchan, Bridge and Patrixbourne CEP School, Kent

When we exercise we transfer en-er-gy

When we exercise we transfer en-er-gy
We breathe much faster and our hearts beat faster too
When we exercise we transfer en-er-gy

Our bodies contain lots of bones, lots of bones

Our bodies contain lots of bones, lots of bones
They support us, protect us and help us all to move
Our bodies contain lots of bones, lot of bones

Joints enable us to move, us to move

Joints enable us to move, us to move
There are different types: ball and socket, and the hinge
Joints enable us to move, us to move

Muscles contract and relax, and relax

Muscles contract and relax, and relax
They’re attached to our bones and they work in pairs too
Muscles contract and relax, and relax

Teaching Tip
hLook at the words of verse two and ask the class to describe how our bones protect us
(by protecting our internal organs).
hCan children give examples of different ball and socket joints(shoulder, hip) and hinge
joints (elbow, knee)?
hAsk the class to name different muscles in the body, e.g. biceps, calf muscles.

Tune: One Man Went To Mow
Key Stage One/Two: 2A HEALTH AND GROWTH/5A KEEPING HEALTHY/
6B MICRO-ORGANISMS
Written by: Fi Gallimore, Briary Primary School, Kent

Bacteria can grow

In the right conditions
These micro-organisms are all around
Multiplying is their mission

Some bacteria are good

They help our body work
Some can do us lots of harm
And everywhere they lurk

If the temperature is high

Bacteria are killed
But they will just lie dormant
When the temperature is chilled

Take these simple tips

To keep bad bugs at bay
Keep food cool, keep yourself clean
Wash the germs away

Song title: BLOW, SHAKE, TAP

Tune: Three Blind Mice
Key Stage One: 1F SOUND AND HEARING
Written by: Fiona Solly, Rosie Henderson, Herne Infant School, Kent

Loud, quiet, silent

Loud, quiet, silent
Pluck, rattle, ring
Pluck, rattle, ring
There are many sounds that we can make
You can hum, you can bang, you can click or scrape
So which sound are you going to make
When it’s your turn?

Blow, shake, tap

Blow, shake, tap
Near or far away
Near or far away
What happens to the sound you make
If you go far away to shout or shake?
So will your sound be loud or faint
When it’s your turn?

TEACHING TIP

2Sit in a circle with a collection of instruments or sound sources in the centre. Pass a
bean bag around the circle as you sing the song. At the end of the song the child
with the bean bag chooses a sound source and makes a sound.
2Discuss the sounds with the children. You might like to use a variety of sound
sources, e.g. pan lids, toys, corrugated card or other materials.

Stamp your feet and beat your chest!

A million times bigger than the earth
Casting shadows from afar

Down in the jungle there were some seeds

Where nobody knew how to make them grow
With a little light here and a little warmth there
Add a little water to make them grow

CHORUS
Light, warmth and a little bit of water
Light, warmth and a little bit of water
Light, warmth and a little bit of water
That’s the way we grow our seeds

Down in the jungle some seeds were growing

With a root going down and a stem going up
With a little light here and a little warmth there
Add a little water to make them grow.

CHORUS

Down in the jungle there is a plant growing

With lots of leaves and a flower too
With a little light here and a little warmth there
Add a little water to make it grow

CHORUS
Light, warmth and a little bit of water
Light, warmth and a little bit of water
Light, warmth and a little bit of water
That’s the way our seeds keep growing

The sound is very quiet and weak

Written by Jenny Marshall and Patricia Bell, Joy Lane Junior School, Whitstable, Kent.

What do seeds need in order to grow?

What do seeds need in order to grow?
What do seeds need in order to grow?
They need heat and water

What about plants that grow without light?

What about plants that grow without light?
What about plants that grow without light?
They grow tall and sickly

How are plants held in place?

How are plants held in place?
How are plants held in place?
By soil around the root base

How do plants get a drink?

How do plants get a drink?
How do plants get a drink?
From water in the soil

What do plants do when uprooted?

What do plants do when uprooted?
What do plants do when uprooted?
The stems and leaves start drooping

How then can we put this right?

How then can we put this right?
How then can we put this right?

Key Stage Two: 3E MAGNETS AND SPRINGS
Written By:Chris Lilley, Ben Cooper & Fi Gallimore, Briary Primary School, Kent

Sung in the style of Sebastian from the Little Mermaid.

Some metals attract the magnets

The magnets, they love them so
Most of all they love iron and steel
Aluminium, brass and copper? They say no!

Some metals attract the magnets

The magnets, they love them so
No other materials stand a chance
Wood, plastic and glass can go.

Some metals attract the magnets

The magnets, they love them so
Some magnets are stronger than others
They pick up more paperclips-Yo!

Some metals attract the magnets

The magnets, they love them so
The ends of the magnets are north and south
South is the blue, North has a nice red glow

Some metals attract the magnets

The magnets, they love them so
Unlike ends they attract so well
But like ends repel like so! (cool action pointing in opposite directions)

Song Title: SHADOWS AND LIGHT

Tune: Skip to My Lou
Key Stage One: 1D LIGHT AND DARK / 3F LIGHT AND SHADOW
Written by: Christina Ingram, Michelle Hudnott, St Mary’s RC Primary, Patricia Bell,
Joy Lane Junior, Kent

The sun is a light source and it shines

Light only travels in straight lines
Bulbs and candles are sources, too
Shadows are made when light can’t get through

Chorus
Sha-dows, shadows and light
Sha-dows, shadows and light
Sha-dows, shadows and light
Sun sets and then it’s night

The sun is our closest sun and it shines

Light travels quickly into our eyes
The moon is not a light source, it doesn’t change shape
It reflects sunlight and appears to change

TEACHING TIP
¶Substitute the word ‘star’ for sun in the second verse.

Song Title: SINGING SCIENCE

Tune: She’ll be Coming round the Mountain
Key Stage Two: ABOUT SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATIONS
Written by: Ben Cooper, Fi Gallimore, Chris Lilley, Briary Primary School, Kent

Chorus
Singing ‘Question, plan, predict and test
Then observe, record. Don’t leave the rest!
You should use interpretation
Do your evaluation
So then your experiment will be the best!’

1. First you get the question clearly in your mind

Then you plan out what it is you want to find
Next try to predict the outcome
Equipment, you will need some!
Then you do your test and see what you can find

Singing ‘Question, plan, predict and test

Then observe, record. Don’t leave the rest!
You should use interpretation
Do your evaluation
So then your experiment will be the best!’

2. We’re recording all our data on a chart

And we’re drawing our experiments in Art
We have made an observation
What’s our interpretation?
If it matches our prediction we are SMART!

TEACHING TIP
! Remind the children that it is ok not to match a prediction, too
as this will help our learning!

Drip, drip - water’s liquid state
Dry the water out
Dry the water out
With heat energy it will evaporate

Turns to water vapour in the air around

If it keeps getting colder the washing will freeze
Blocks of ice waving in the breeze

In, out, in, out
You flick the switch about
You put the batteries in
Connect the wires to a cell
That’s how you make a circuit

Whoa, an electric circuit!
Whoa, an electric circuit!
Whoa an electric circuit!
Don’t electrocute yourself making it!

Batteries connected to the bulb, to the bulb
Makes the light bright and completes the circuit
Batteries connected to the bulb, to the bulb

Key Stage One/Two: 2E FORCES & MOVEMENT/ 4E FRICTION
6E FORCES IN ACTION
Written By: Fi Gallimore, Briary.

Push into the line

Pulls your hair
Bends your ruler – it might break
They don’t care.

Squish your fruit

Squash your lunch
Squeeze and pinch and stretch you
They’re a horrible bunch

Twist your ears

Tear your shirt
Crush your confidence
Roll you in the dirt.

Swing you round

Bounce you about
Spin you in all directions
How do you get out?

Things will not change direction

Unless you apply a force
Speak out, speak up and tell someone
Let your resistance change their course.

Written by: Class 6L Hampton Primary School, Kent

Thermometers
They can be used
To take the temperature of gases, liquids, solids
The liquid in the thermometer
Rises as it gets warmer

Because they are in-sol-u-ble
Insoluble substances
Can be separated from liquids

Evaporation

By which water changes state
From a liquid to a gas
And we call it water vapour

Twinkle, twinkle, little star

How do you shine from afar?
Do you make your own light
Shining bright, in the night?
Twinkle, twinkle little star
Shine your own light from afar

Twinkle, twinkle, little moon

Will I see you very soon?
Do you make your own light
Watching us through the night?
Twinkle, twinkle little moon
Reflecting light from the sun

Twinkle, twinkle, fiery sun

Could you be the brightest one?
High up in the daytime skies
Take care to protect your eyes
Twinkle, twinkle fiery sun
Shine on us till day is done

Twinkle, twinkle, dark, dark night

What has happened to your light?
With no sun or source of light
Nothing makes the moon shine bright
Twinkle, twinkle dark, dark night
I can’t see, without light

The electricity it needs to push
Voltage with its numbers

Shows us just how big a push it gives

A positive and a negative terminal

A positive and a negative terminal
The push, it starts at one
The push, it starts at one
Goes all round and then it starts again

To check your circuit’s working you might need

To check your circuit’s working you might need
A light bulb to light up
A light bulb to light up
And then you know the push has gone all round

Batteries, they are also known as cells

Batteries, they are also known as cells
They contain the chemicals
They contain the chemicals

Tune: Kookaburra
Key Stage Two: 3D ROCKS AND SOILS
Written by:Fi Gallimore, Chris Lilley, Briary Primary School, Kent

3. Where do puddles go when the rain comes down?

Puddles in the country or in the town
Some evaporate
At a rapid rate
But some will soak away

4. Clay is very fine, rain can’t drain away

Clay gets water-logged on a rainy day
When sun comes around
It dries out the ground
It’s much too hard to play!

5. Particles of sand have very big air spaces

Water flows away into other places
Puddles disappear
And the reason’s clear
It’s less compact in here!

6. Stones in the soil will improve the drainage

Make spaces bigger so then there’s no blockage
Filters straight through here
Puddles disappear
No puddles left today!
