COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Math Foundations 2 is a curriculum designed for low-literacy SLIFE (students with limited or interrupted formal
education) and EL students. It is intended to provide challenging, standards-aligned content and skills that build on
students’ individual strengths and diverse life experiences with numbers to help prepare them for transition into
the mainstream Algebra 1 program. The curriculum enacts the CCLS shifts and calls upon students to actively
construct knowledge in mathematics by providing students with rich mathematical tasks and investigations that
require them to describe, explore, solve, represent, and justify their thinking. There will be focus on learning the
mathematical concepts along with language development.

CURRICULUM:
Math Foundations 2 is a curriculum designed by teachers of ISD 742, with support from the “Learning and Teaching”
department at the district level. This is a pilot program, so we are in the process of developing this curriculum as the year
progresses.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:
Students are expected to attend all classes. Students are responsible for learning the material and handing in
assignments on time. When students have an absence, the student has the number of days absent plus one to
complete all work. It is the student’s responsibility to get and complete any work they may have missed because of
an absence. Students absent for school activities should make up the work before being absent. You will have
the school policy of absent days +1 to make up a test or quiz, if it is not made up within the allotted time the
test grade will become a zero in the grade book.

COURSE EXPECTATIONS:
Be Responsible
