a. Facts and Figures
Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games is a multi sport event for people with disability, and
will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia on the 6th to 13th of October 2018.
This multi sport event will be the third Asian Para Games, as previously, the event was
held for the first time in Guangzhou, China and Incheon, South Korea, 4 years later.
Subsequently, 43 countries will be competing in 18 different sports.
Their determination, courage, and spirit make them The Toughest Athletes,
and they will compete in The Toughest Games.
a. Logo
The concept that is brought this year is ‘Harmony’, which is a form of harmonious and
balance within the natural environment and our surroundings in living the life The circle
shaped logo representing harmony/balance that is formed by the diversified nations
all over Asia, altogether harmoniously shines to the world as ‘The Inspiring Spirit and
Energy of Asia’. Collection of pieces forming a circle represents the silhouette of Gelora
Bung Karno Stadium from top view.
Gelora Bung Karno will be the main venue of the Asian Para Games 2018 Silhouette
of a moving man in the center of the circle symbolize a form of movement of ‘The
Inspiring Spirit and Energy of Asia’, the movement of Asian Para Games 2018 athletes
achieving victory. The 3 curves in 3 colors surrounding the man’s silhouette serve as
the diversified nations of Asia that move all together as a unity in harmony for mutual
achievement.

MOMO (motivation and mobility) is the official mascot of the Asian Para Games 2018.
The mascot is a graphic visualization of Bondol Eagle (haliastur indus).
The eagle only lives in 1000’s island (pulau seribu) area with easily recognized bright
white color from head to chest, while other part of its body is dark brown.
Due to it’s small population, Bondol eagle is categorised as endangered species by the
United Nations.
To celebrate the 3 rd Asian Para Games, the competition period has been decided to start
from 6 October till 13 October for 7 days. During the Games time, it is most likely a dry
season that athletes may perform in their best condition.
As a step towards achieving this aim, the Indonesia Asian Para Games Organizing
Committee (INAPGOC) is formed to prepare, implement and evaluate the execution of
Asian Para Games 2018.
By organizing this event, INAPGOC wants to actively promote the special sports for
athletes with disabilities to Indonesian citizens, so that in the future the support for
these sports will continue to increase. Furthermore, this event is expected as the first
step to make the opportunity to compete a right for all levels of society.
Indonesia the host country of 3rd Asian Para Games 2018 in Jakarta is determined to
give success and develop the inspiring spirit and energy of Asia.

It is open to athletes with physical impairments who may shoot with assistive
devices allowed under classification rules.
The sport tests accuracy, strength and concentration. Using a recurve bow with
the target size and distance archers stand from the target differs based on the
competition category.
The rules are adapted from set forth by the International Association of
Athletics Federations (IAAF).

The sport can be played by both men and women of any age with physical
impairment. Played on a rectangular court separated by a net with a shuttle.
Played on a flat, smooth surface, where players must throw or roll coloured
balls as close as possible to a white target ball, known as the “jack.” The player,
pair or team with the most balls near the jack is the winner.

It’s a strategy board game played by two players on a checkered game board
with 64 squares arranged in an 8 by 8 grid. Each player begins the game with
16 chess pieces.
The objective is to use a player’s pieces to attack and capture the opponent’s
pieces, ultimately to checkmate the opponent’s king by placing it under an
inescapable threat of capture.
Road cyclist compete on hand cycles, trike, tandem bikes or bikes depending on
their condition. On the track, cyclist compete on either partner bikes or bikes.

Played exclusively by athletes who are blind or visually impaired. Players must
wear opaque eyeshades at all times ensuring fair competition.
All athletes must be legally blind. The objective is to throw a ball past the
opponents and into their net to score points. Players stay on their hands and
knees to defend their net and score against their opponents.
Only athletes with visual impairment are eligible to compete, with all the sight classes.
The aim is to either gain more points than the rival by skillful attacks or score.

It is a low impact, precision sport where people with a physical disability can
participate equally with able-bodied competitors. There are no changes to the
standard competition rules of Bowls applied.
The game involves rolling radially asymmetrical balls (called lawn bowls) towards
the target of a smaller white ball (called the Jack). Lawn Bowls for athletes with
cerebral palsy and vision impairment was introduced in the 1984 Paralympic
Games.
The rules of powerlifting are very strict, and athletes must follow the commands
of the referee which are “start” and “rack”.

Swimmers are classified with regards to their functional ability on each stroke,
and can compete in freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke and medley
events. The events are open to athletes with physical, intellectual or visual
impairments.
This ability to steady hand and mind to deliver a sequence of shots requires well-
developed powers of concentration and emotional control.

It has many similarities to its stand-up version, but with a few modifications.
Sitting volleyball is played from a lower net and the court dimensions is also
smaller.
Intellectually impaired athletes can also compete. Men and women can
participate in individual, doubles or team events, and matches consist of five
sets of 11 points each, and are played in a best-of-five format.
The objective is to score the most points in the opposing team’s basket. The
team with the most points by the time the clock expires wins.

It is a version of fencing for athletes with a disability. Men and women with
amputations, spinal-cord injuries and cerebral palsy are eligible to compete
infoil epee (men and women) and saber (men) events.
Their wheelchairs are fastened to the floor during competition. Played by two
athletes either as an individual event or as part of a team event.
Opponents hit a tennis ball with a racket back and forth over a .914 metre net
in the middle of the court. The goal is to hit the ball into the opponent’s half of
the court without them being able to return it.
