THE NIGERIA OF MY DREAM

Nigeria, my great country was formed by the Amalgamation

of the Northern and Southern Protectorates and so named by
Dame Flora Shaw Lugard (on the Niger River) in the year
1914 as a British protectorate. She gained her independence
on the 1st of October 1960 and became a republic in the
year 1963.
The joy of independence fought for and won by Nigeria
founding fathers brought happiness, enthusiasm and hope of
a beautiful Nigeria where every man and woman would fulfill
his or her dream in peace and harmony. Unfortunately, this
did not last for long.
Over the years, most Nigerians have grown to be self-
centered, greedy and dishonest, employing every means
possible to seek money and acquire wealth. Every where you
go, you would see that people do not genuinely love one
another. According to one of my school prefect, “we are
always after the five Ps which are; position, power, popularity
and pleasure’. Nothing else matters to us.
In essence, our government and several security and law
enforcement agencies no longer guarantee human safety
and security with specific emphasis on education, health and
agriculture, the three key sectors that would guarantee
human security anywhere in the world. Our society is
gradually falling apart.
But suddenly, I see hope because I am encouraged by this
burning desire for integrity and service to humanity, which
the Nigerian youths are filled with. I see hope when I look
back at the history of Nigeria and how we have persevered.
Despite the problems associated with Nigeria, there is still
hope.

Are we to resign to our fate, believing it is all lost and

hopeless? Fellow Nigerians, I, surely do not belief so. I have a
dream for Nigeria which must be fulfilled.
The Nigeria of my dream is a place where bribery and
corruption is reduced to the barest minimum. In Nigeria
today, many people look forward the day he or she would be
in the position of authority. Any time I think of our dear
nation, I shed tears hoping that one day, God shall touch the
hearts of men.

I have a dream that one day, the government would ensure

human security in terms of education, health and agriculture.
I do belief that an educated, healthy and well fed man is
superior to the sick, uneducated and hungry man, as the
living is to the dead.
Our mother land would not be a track of greatness if the
electricity supply is not constant. I have a dream that one
day, the electricity supply would be uninterrupted.
Our dream for a better Nigeria cannot be achieved if we do
not unite as one. So let us come together, and help salvage
our motherland so that our dream of an egalitarian society
shall become a reality.

So, I have a dream for a better tomorrow for us all.
