1 Scope
2.1 Any conflicts between this specification and other applicable Saudi Aramco
Materials System Specifications (SAMSSs), Engineering Standards (SAESs),
Standard Drawings, (SASDs), or industry standards, codes, and forms shall be
resolved in writing by the Company or Buyer Representative through the
Manager, Process and Control Systems Department of Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.
2.2 Direct all requests to deviate from this specification in writing to the Company
or Buyer Representative, who shall follow internal company procedure
SAEP-302 and forward such requests to the Manager, Process and Control
Systems Department of Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.

4 Engineering Units
All dimensions and measurements shall be in the “International System of Units” (SI),
and may be followed by the equivalent value in English units bracketed in parentheses
( ). When not critical, the equivalent dimensions and measurements may be rounded off
to their nearest practical value.
5 Definitions
Crosslink: A process in which chemical bonds are established between long chain
polymer molecules. When applied to polyolefin materials, the material properties
change from thermoplastic to thermoset plastic.
ITC: Instrumentation tray cable, per NFPA 70, NEC Article 727.
PLTC: Power-limited tray cable, per NFPA 70, NEC Article 725.

6 Cable Specifications
6.1 General
Due to differences in manufacturing and design, some cables will require fillers,
binders and separator tapes. These components shall be provided whenever they
comprise an integral part of the standard design of the cable. The utilization of
these components shall not constitute a deviation from this Specification.
6.2.1 Conductor
Flame retardant PVC, nylon- jacketed PVC (For Type TC cables only)
or thermoset crosslinked polyolefin (XLPO or XLPE), minimum
temperature rating 90°C.

6.8.2.1 Spur cables shall meet sections 6.8.1.1 and 6.8.1.3 above.
6.8.2.2 Spur cables shall also meet the applicable cable specifications
in Group 2 above.
Exceptions:
6.8.3.1 For all FF cables, spur and trunk, the outer jacket color shall
be orange.
6.8.3.2 For all armored FF cables, spur and trunk, the inner and outer
jacket color of the armored cable shall be orange.
6.8.3.3 For all FF cables, spur and trunk, the conductor color code
shall be black and white with bare tinned copper conductor
for the drain/shield arrangement.

Armored cable shall have served steel wire or interlocked steel armor
under an extruded PVC outer jacket. Steel armor shall be galvanized.
Exception:
7 Marking
The following information shall be clearly marked on the outer jacket of the
cable, in no specific order:
a) Manufacturer's name, trade name, catalog or type number
b) Number of pairs/triads
c) Conductor size in mm² or AWG
d) Voltage rating (300 or 600 V) for ITC or TC cables only.
e) Type of cable (PLTC, TC or equivalent)
f) Approval mark of listing authority (UL, IEC, or as applicable)
g) “Sunlight resistant” designation, in Manufacturer's standard nomenclature,
for Type TC cable (Optional for Type PLTC cable)
h) “Direct burial” designation, if applicable per UL 13 or UL 1277, in
Manufacturer's standard nomenclature
i) “Oil resistant” designation, in manufacturer's standard nomenclature, for
Type TC Cable (preferred for Types ITC and PLTC Cable)
j) For FOUNDATION™ Fieldbus cables, “TYPE A” shall be marked.
In addition, all FF cables shall be listed as PLTC or ITC and shall bear any
other mandatory marking specified in FF-844.

Each reel shall have a weatherproof (metal or plastic) tag, securely attached to a
flange of the reel and plainly stating:
a) Manufacturer's trade name
b) Date of manufacture
c) Conductor size
d) Cable rating
e) Type of cable
f) Temperature designation
g) Minimum bend radius
h) Maximum pulling tension
i) Shipping length and diameter of cable
j) Saudi Aramco Purchase Order number

Type Tests: Each cable type shall be type tested, with the test conducted and certified
by an approved third party testing authority.

8.2.4 All Foundation Fieldbus (FF) cables shall be tested to ensure full
compliance to IEC 61158-2 Section 12.8.2 and FF-844 and shall be
registered by Fieldbus Foundation.
9.1 Inspection
Revision Summary
