An analysis of Tourism Development Impact to the Nursing in Bali

Abstract
Background: Tourism development in Bali has been proven in fostering the local economic
growth through increasing the investment, vacancy and business opportunities and ultimately
improving the welfare of the community. These opportunities not only in the form of tourism
infrastructures development, but also in the healthcare area, particularly in nursing.
Aim : The aim of this study is to analyze the impact of tourism development to the nursing, in the
aspects of nursing services, competencies, psychosocial and economic growth.
Method: Descriptive quantitative technique was employed in this study. Thirty-one nurses from
several health care fasilities across tourism areas in Bali were involved as participants in this study
by employing purposive sampling technique. Each participant was interviewed using a structured
questionnaire consisting of questions regarding their demographic information and the impact of
tourism development to the nursing.
Findings: The study showed that most of the nurses believed that the tourism development in Bali
has been influenced the nursing services (83,8%), competencies (93,5%) i.e. nursing skill (96,5%)
and communication (86,2%), nursing psychosocial (54,8%) such as nursing anxiety (58,8%) and
lack of confidence (41,2%), as well as brought the economic impact the nursing in Bali (58,0%).
Conclusion: Tourism development in Bali has been positively impact the nursing situation in Bali.
Findings of this study suggested that nurses should continuously cultivate their professionalism
through updating their knowledge and skills in tourism nursing.
