1. Purpose

1.1 Purpose

The standard defines and regulates the hot dipped galvanised steel coil for the manufacture of
metal ceilings.

2. Scope:

2.1 Scope

This standard shall pertain to all Armstrong metal and wood ceiling production facilities and
Armstrong vendors who supplies metalwork and woodwork ceiling products to Armstrong.

4. General Information:

4.1 General Requirements

1) Light source should have emission at every wavelength within the visible range – 380 –
720 nm
2) Light source’s intensity should be stable.
3) Ambient temperature should be consistent. Change in ambient temperature will result in
change in intensity.
4) Light sources should be white balanced. White balancing will require a white reflectance
standard.
5) Geometry – alignment of source and product should be consistent over a period of time.
Product appearance will depend on properties - reflection, transmission, scattering,
absorption and emission.

5.5 Inspection Procedure

1. Side Angle Lighting:
a. Place samples closest to side raking lights and no less then 2 ft from bottom
of board and no more then 6 ft from bottom of board.
b. Turn on Side Angle Lights (all other lights off)
c. View from position 4 and Inspect for Picture Framing if applicable, paint
ridges, hold down marks, gloss, paint streaks, sander waves, rough
surfaces, bumps, indents and other facial defects.
d. Move to position 8 and view boards again looking for gloss.
e. Turn board 90 degrees and repeat steps c and d

2. Mac Beth and T8 Fluorescent Frontal Lights:

a. Turn on Fluorescent Frontal lights (all other lights off)
b. Inspect in positions 3, 4, 5 for edge paint coverage, lamination, edge detail,
damage and general overall visual.
c. Turn on Macbeth lights
d. Inspect in positions 3, 4 and 5 for differences in colour (metamerism)

3. Flood lights:
a. Turn on Flood lights (all other lights off)
b. Inspect from positions 1 to 2 in a half circle 6 to 7 looking for paint ridges,
picture framing, hold down marks, bumps rough surfaces, sander waves,
facial scratches, shot marks, indents and other facial defects.
c. Turn sample 90 degrees and repeat inspection.

4. Overhead top raking T8 Fluorescents

a. Turn on overhead T8 fluorescents (all other lights off)
b. Inspect from positions 1 to 2 in a half circle and 6 to 7 looking for paint
ridges, picture framing, hold down marks, bumps rough surfaces, sander
waves, facial scratches, shot marks, indents and other facial defects.
c. Turn sample 90 degrees and repeat inspection.
