All City Elementary is dedicated to creating a

community of learners: children, teachers,
parents, and other adults working together to
maximize individual success in a changing world.
Unique focus:
The classroom is seen as an extension of the
community and the world at large and parents
are deliberately and purposefully involved in
classroom instruction.

Parents commit to working one half-day in their

child’s classroom each week.

In addition to grade level groups, students form

“family” groups that consist of students from
every grade level.

ability students we serve to become well-rounded
independent learners.
Unique focus:
A learning environment targeting gifted students
in grades 2-5 whose scores on ability and
achievement tests demonstrate a need for a
faster pace and deeper understanding.

Students are selected based on the CoGAT

ability test and NWEA MAP scores.

Supplemental programs such as Junior Great

Principal

Eugene Field A+ Elementary recognizes that

people are smart in many ways and allowed to
learn creatively. Our mission is to provide a strong
academic program by using drama, visual art,
music, and dance to meet the needs of each and
every student.
Unique focus:
Classroom teachers and fine arts teachers work together
to ensure that curriculum is taught through the arts and
that arts are taught through the curriculum. Eugene
Field is the only A+ school in South Dakota.

In addition to art, music, PE, and library students have

dance, drama and art integration. Specials are 42
minutes compared to 35 minutes in a traditional school.

Neighborhood students are automatically assigned to

Eugene Field. 20% of students are neighborhood
students and 80% are open enrolled from across the
District.

Mission: To develop life-long, multilingual learners

with the cultural background and problem-solving
skills to succeed in an ever-changing world.
Unique focus:
All instruction, beginning in Kindergarten, is
delivered in Spanish. Students read, write, and
speak in Spanish as they study the same
curriculum as all other students are studying in
the Sioux Falls School District. Beginning in 3rd
grade, students have 45 minutes each day of
English Language Arts.

Unique focus:
New Tech is a project based learning school that is
part of the New Tech Network. Students are graded
not only on content knowledge but also on
collaboration, agency (grit, perseverance, and
growth mindset), written communication and oral
communication.

Students connect with community experts during

each project. New Tech hosts an average of 300
community partners each year.

New Tech students may take dual enrollment college

classes at Southeast Tech tuition free.

• Student recruitment and retention:
– The primary reasons students give for not
choosing New Tech—or for leaving New Tech—are
the lack of sports facilities and instrumental music
on campus
– As a small school, New Tech cannot offer the
number and variety of electives that the larger
traditional schools can offer

Unique Focus – Coding for all grades is

embedded throughout the curriculum. By grade
4, students are coding using the Java program
language. Equally important, through the focus
on embedded coding projects students are
building creativity, critical thinking,
communication, collaboration, and confidence.
