COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is a 9 week course designed to introduce students to the Elements of Art, a
variety of techniques and media, with an introduction to art history and critique.
Individual creativity, neatness and respect for the work of others is encouraged.
An emphasis will be placed on vocabulary.

CLASS EXPECTATIONS:
• Be on time and ready to go!
- When you are late you are sending the message that your time is more
important than others.
• Respect others and their work. Look with your eyes, not with your hands.
• Be appropriate. Act like young adults.
• Be prepared to work hard and use your class time fully to your advantage.
• Be creative. Use mistakes, accidents and failed attempts as ways to learn
and improve.
• Take Pride. You will have spent a lot of time creating in here, talk
positively about what you make, and what others make.
• Help keep the studio clean and orderly, whether you made the mess or
not.

CLEANING EXPECTATIONS:
• Clean and return all tools and materials to their correct locations before
leaving the studio.
• Keep your shelf clean, organized and free of extra tools.
• Spray and wipe down surfaces counters, sinks, and tables.
• Pick up trash off the floor.
• All stools are to be put up on top of tables.
• LEAVE THE STUDIO CLEANER THAN YOU FOUND IT!

TARDY POLICY:
If you are not in the room when the bell rings, you need to have a pink pass or
you will be marked tardy.

ABSENCE POLICY:
If you are absent from class it is your responsibility to ensure you do not fall
behind. You will find your own time to catch-up.
RESTROOM/DRINK/LOCKER POLICY:
You may go to the restroom, get a drink, or go to your locker during work time.
You must obtain permission from the teacher and then take a hall pass. You will
not be permitted to go during the first 10 and last 10 minutes of class.

HONOR CODE:
It is expected that the honor code be followed in the studio as it would in any
other class. Copyright and plagiarism will result in a zero.

ASSESSMENT:
Final grades will be based on total points accumulated from various assignments
as well as regular sketchbook grades given weekly throughout the quarter.
Examples:
Weekly Sketchbook – 10 points per week – 5 points for completeness and 5
points for valuing time and productivity.
Projects – Line project, Visual Journal, Perspective Project, Color Theory,
Texture Project (This is replaced with an art show if it falls during your quarter) –
These are 150 points a piece.
Quizzes – 3 quizzes given after the Line, Perspective, and Color Theory projects
on vocabulary.
Critique – This is the “Final” and is treated like a test and carries 150 points. This
is the last full day of the quarter. If missed, a make-up one-on-one critique needs
to be set up with Mrs. Hinton immediately upon your return to school.

EXTRA CREDIT:
Extra credit may be earned by attending any art related function outside of
normal school/art class activities, such as gallery walks, artist
openings/receptions, visiting Art museums, or going to a musical during current
quarter. Proof of attendance will be required and a short summary of the art
related function.

ART SHOW:
If you are in my class during a quarter where there is an art show, one of your
projects will be replaced by helping create, set-up, and attending the art show (30
minutes). This is equal to 150 points.
