According to Asian Development Bank (ADB). Southeast Asia’s natural resources are among the
richest and most diverse in the planet. The region holds 20% of the world’s biodiversity, 14% of
the world’s tropical forests and 34% of global coral resources. The natural ecosystem and
biodiversity of the region provides numerous social and economic benefits, supporting food, water

This project, “BioCon” aims to cater possible grassroots solutions to the destruction of habitat and
declining number of wildlife through promotion of environmental education on resource and
wildlife management, in-depth experiential learning through project implementation, social media
write up and documentation and among others. The program will run a photo contest that address
the concerns and issues on “Environmental Resources and Wildlife Management and
Conservation” and create a solution or way of solving the concern through a project that can be
implemented. It is open to all Southeast Asian countries and the proponents must be from any
ASEAN countries in the age of 18 to 25 years old and must be in group that is composed of not
more than two (2) key persons.
The structure of the program ensures the personal involvement in implementation of the different
proposals will address the concern of environmental resources and wildlife management and
conservation in a grassroots level.
Environmental resources and wildlife management and conservation is a broad scope of work
and aspect that parallels to the need of enough time and resources. We encourage the ASEAN
youth, in a form of grant competition in stepping up ways in addressing the issues related to
environmental resources and wildlife management and conservation in their respective country’s
environment. This project is created with the mind of connecting the youth that have the same
objectives and with the hope that they can the sets of values to be the paradigm for the people in
the community towards making a change in a form of involvement in management and
conservation.
- To remedy the lack of awareness in local level on environmental resources and wildlife
management and conservation through environmental education (e.g. exhibit in a
university) and using of social media write ups as a way of reaching passive individuals,
person in authorities and non-government organization.
- To address environmental issues in grassroots level in the Southeast Asian countries.
- To encourage the young Southeast Asian leaders to step forward as front liners in taking
actions in environmental issues.
- Refine and sharpen individual’s project management and implementation skills through
prepared skill workshops and reinforced environmental resource and wildlife conservation
knowledge.
- To create a collaborative project all throughout the countries in Southeast Asian region
tackling environmental issues on resources and wildlife management and conservation.
- To let an individual experience and expose existing operation of conservation and
environmental management work in the country.
- To draft sustainable reports on the implementation of the individual project as a possible
way of continuity of their program.
Specific:
Photography and writing skill exposure will be the initial objective. This objective will be
manifested by doing a Photography and writing skill exposure workshop in each
country.Raising awareness through social media platform and by hosting a project proposal
competition with the focus on environmental resources and wildlife management and
conservation and following the template of identifying the local issue using a personal photo
and description of it and suggesting a doable solution in addressing the issue (Phase 1). The
competition is open to all young Southeast Asian countries (Singapore, Philippines,
Cambodia, Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, Brunei and Thailand) ages 18-25
years old. The proponent must be either in a group of two or individual. The organizer will
choose five (5) proposed projects for the grant competition will be invited to travel to Indonesia
to join the program proper of the program (Phase 2). Within the program, set of activities will
be conducted to hone their individual skills, reinforced environmental knowledge and attain
relevant strategies in conservation through experiential learning. The chosen grant winners
will be given a certain amount of money to implement the proposed project with the given time
period, conditions and guidelines. The beneficiary of this program will be in two forms: direct,
which are the winners of the grant proposal and indirect, the community of the chosen area
of their project.
Measurable:
The following will serve as checklist of success indicators with respect to the objectives and
goal of the program:

- Number and quality of collaboration with local NGOs, government or related group
Achievable:
The phase one is achievable and can be done in near future as technology can be an effective
tool to conduct the Phase 1 project. Also, for Phase 2 the program is achievable in all manners
except for one thing, monetary resources. Since the program involves the participation of all
interested young individual from all over the Southeast Asian region and would need to
support them in the implementation of their project using the grant money (Phase 2). As for
other factors, collaborative works and partnership will be done to lessen or defray other
expenses.
Relevant:
The program is designed to effectively reach and address the issues in the grassroots level.
Lessening the broad scope of management and conservation makes a positive impact on
doing something and making a significance. The following are activities in the program that
address the overall project goal:
- The social media write up using environmental resources degradation and threatening
wildlife photo will help raise awareness in environmental resource and wildlife
management and conservation problems that happening around the region (Phase 1).
- The project proposal grant competition is an approach of addressing the issues directly
and with personal (Phase 2).
