Army troops overruns NPA Encampment in Davao

Army troops encountered on Thursday morning a group of New People’s Army

rebels at a mountainous place south of Davao City. After the firefight, the government
forces seized the NPA temporary encampment and the documents belonging to the
rebel group.

A platoon of soldiers belonging to the 84th Infantry Battalion were conducting

clearing operations in the vicinity of Purok 8, Barangay Carmen, Baguio District, Davao
City when they chanced upon a group of more or less 30 members of the NPA

Prior to the encounter, the 84th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army received
an information from civilians about the presence of around 30 fully armed men passing
through a civilian community on Wednesday afternoon. Though unsure of what the NPA
would do, the government troops took the necessary action to prevent the enemy from
conducting hostile actions that will harm and intimidate the people.

The same NPA group is responsible for the burning of one truck, a backhoe and
bulldozer owned by private a individual on April 14, this year in Toril District, Davao City.
This same group also violated the human rights of the five supporters of a local
candidate on May 5 at Barangay Manuel Guianga, Tugbok District, this City. On June
26, this year, the same group took away the service pistol of security personnel of a
garden resort located at a place near the encounter site.

Lieutenant Colonel Gabriel Viray, Commander of the 84th Infantry Battalion,

directed the conduct of pursuit operations against the retreating NPA members. He said
that this NPA group should learn a lesson that their wrong acts will not go unpunished.

Government troops found bloodstains on the positions occupied by the NPA

indicating that casualties were inflicted to the rebel group. Ground troops involved in the
skirmishes also reported that the NPA members they encountered dragged their
casualties as they retreated away from the encounter site.

The government troops respond to the information received from the residents stating
that there was a presence of more or less thirty (30) armed New People’s Army under
Guerilla Front 54 at Barangay Tamayong, Calinan District heading towards Sitio
Ligabato, Barangay Carmen.
Earlier, the operating troops came up with a discovery of an abandoned enemy camp
site at the same sitio and were able to close in another enemy camp a distance from the
encounter site.

The presence of Guerilla Front 54 in the area causes the residents to fright and disturb
their peaceful living. They have initiated various violent activities such as kidnapping
local politician supporters at Toril and Tugbok District last April, and May this year;
Arson, burning of one (1) hauler truck, one (1) backhoe, including one (1) bulldozer last
April; Harassment of government troops last April; On May this year, troops under 69th
Infantry Battalion were ambushed at Toril District and Disarming of personal buddy
guard of a businessman carted away one (1) M16 rifle, one (1) Cal. 45 pistol and one
(1) base radio at Baguio District last June.

However, with the cooperation of the local populace to the military, the atrocities of this
Guerilla Front will be prevented and the Army troops will continue to defend the people
against any threat of danger.
