Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KUMUDA invites industry to connect with

80 startup entrepreneurs in George Town
Ignite Your Startup Tour with Seattle’s Inspiration to be kicked off in Penang on
Oct 18, and continue nationwide to three other Malaysian cities.

Penang, 1 October 2010

For the first time in Southeast Asia, Startup Weekend-inspired workshops

will be held to inspire, guide and teach as many as 360 existing or would-be
entrepreneurs in a span of 10 days starting October 19th until October 28th.

Leading these one to three-day workshops in four-cities tour throughout

Peninsular Malaysia, dubbed the "Ignite Your Startup Tour" -- starting in
Penang Island in the north, and ending Johor Bahru at the southern tip with
Kuala Lumpur & Kota Bharu in between, will be Mr Marc Nager, one of the
directors of Startup Weekend, a not-for-profit organization based in Seattle,
USA, which has recently won a grant from the Kauffman Foundation. Mr
Nager has personally advised and helped create hundreds of new startup
ventures in just the last year alone, and thus will be instrumental to help spark
the startup business movements in Malaysia. Globally, Startup Weekend has
helped educate over 17,000 entrepreneurs and launched over 560 new
startup ventures with over 36% of the Startup Weekend Startups continue to
run after three months.

"One of the missions of Startup Day event is to gather 80 like-minded

individuals with new startup ideas in each city, and connect each individual
with at least one potential partner or co-founder as well as to match each
individual or group formed from this meeting with at least one potential
mentor, ideally, from related industry. We call this activity the 'Co-Founder
Dating'!", said Nasir Sobri, Chairman of Koperasi Usahawan Muda Pulau
Pinang Berhad (KUMUDA), one of the State Partners for the tour.

Nasir pointed out that Malaysians need to actively encourage and support
startup culture among the youths, or even among those currently working in
either government or private sectors to improve overall economic
composition of, or contributory elements to the nation’s productivity,
particularly in cities, towns and villages outside Klang Valley.

Nasir introduced KUMUDA as ‘a one-year old startup co-op from rural Balik
Pulau’ and said, “We are honoured to be given a chance to co-organize this

first leg of Ignite Your Startup Tour and, together with Startup Day Penang’s
main sponsor, the North Corridor Implementation Agency (NCIA – KORIDOR
UTARA), we proudly chose George Town as the host city so that the
participants, mentors and co-organizers from outside Penang can also enjoy
what this UNESCO-gazette World Heritage site can offer.”

Ignite Your Startup Tour is presented by Global Entrepreneurship Sdn Bhd, a

campaign management company of Warisan Global Sdn Bhd -- a ten-year
old company that specialises in community projects with social focus.

Dhaksinamoorthy “Dash” Balakrishnan, Chief Executive Office of Warisan

Global, who had represented Malaysia at the Presidential Summit on
Entrepreneurship in Washington DC earlier this year, and whose company
has been hosting the worldwide-run Global Entrepreneurship Week
campaign in Malaysia since 2008 and will host Startup Weekend event in
Kuala Lumpur, noted that “The Ignite Your Startup Tour will be a signature
activity of the Global Entrepreneurship Week Malaysia 2010, scheduled to
be held in dozens of cities & towns throughout Malaysia on 8-14 NOVEMBER
2010.”

Dash continued, “Ignite Your Startup Tour is inspired from Seattle, USA
originated Startup Weekend event that has been held in over 80 cities
around the world, inspire over 16,000 entrepreneurs, and launch over 700
new startup ventures. This is an event you cannot afford to miss!”

Startup Day workshops will be held in Penang (Sunway Hotel George Town,
Oct 18-19), Kelantan (Dewan Keusahawanan Terbuka, Universiti Malaysia
Kelantan, Oct 26-27) and Johor (Persada International Convention Centre, Oct
28) and the three-day Startup Weekend will be held in Kuala Lumpur (Plug &
Play Technology Garden, Oct 22-24).

In Penang, YBhg Dato’ Redza Rafiq, Chief Executive of KORIDOR UTARA is

scheduled to deliver a welcome speech to as many as a hundred Penang-
based entrepreneurs at the pre-Day networking evening.

It is targeted by the organising teams that at least ten new startups will
immediately emerge from each city that Ignite Your Startup Tour stops.

America Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and MSC Malaysia, with overall winner
from the tour to be offered a trip to California, USA for one week to learn
