M1 = make one (increases stitch count by one stitch)

C6F = slip 3 stitches onto cable needle and hold at front of work, knit 3, knit 3 from cable
needle

C6B = slip 3 stitches onto cable needle and hold at back of work, knit 3, knit 3 from cable
needle

Cast on 3 stitches

Knit 30 rows

Next row: K3, pick up and knit 15 stitches along long edge of fabric, pick up and knit 3 stitches
along cast on edge.

Next row: K3, PM, P1, PM, P13, PM, P1, PM, K3

Row 1 (right side): K3, SM, M1, K to next marker, M1, SM, P2, K9, P2, SM, M1, K to next
marker, M1, SM, K3

Row 2: K3, SM, P to next marker, SM, K2, P9, K2, SM, P to next marker, SM, K3

Repeat Rows 1 to 8 until 253 stitches ending with wrong side row.

Moss stitch row 1: K3, SM, M1, (P1, K1) to next marker, M1, SM, (continue in cable pattern
between markers), SM, M1, (P1, K1) to next marker, M1, SM, K3

Moss stitch Row 2: K3, SM, (K1, P1) to next marker, SM, (continue in cable pattern between
markers), SM, (K1, P1) to next marker, SM, K3

Continue for 6 more rows of moss stitch (knit all purl stitches and purl all knit stitches), always
knitting the first and last 3 stitches, increasing at markers on right side as established, and
continuing center cable as established. Bind off.

Wrap remaining yarn around a chair back and cut through all strands to make equal lengths of
yarn about 32” in length. Use a crochet hook to attach lengths of yarn to the point of the shawl
where the cable ends. Braid the strands of yarn in the same direction and style as the cable.
Use an end of scrap yarn to tie the braid at the end.

Weave in ends and block as desired.
