1 Scope
This specification refers to elastomers for the manufacture of sealing’s with high resistance
against abrasion. There are the following types:

JED-337-0 polyurethane-rubber (AU) for standard applications (e.g. lip seal rings);

JED-337-1 thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU-ARCL) for special applications without grease.

Attention: This material has only limited resistance to grease.

If JED-337 is indicated on the drawing, JED-337-0 shall be applied.

2 General requirements
The finished parts shall be homogeneous and free from pores, blisters, and other defects. The
parts must not show any defects such as cracks, voids etc. within their structure.

The requirements for finished parts can be taken from the drawing, the special part specification
and the technical conditions of delivery JED-220 established by WABCO.

All materials, even ingredients in small quantities (e. g. cadmium), which are detrimental to
health or to the environment are banned from being used.

3 Thermal range of application for the elastomer parts

Continuous operational temperature range: -25 °C to +80 °C

Short-term exposure to heat: 1h at +110 °C

Storage temperatures according to ISO 2230.

The continuous operational temperature range designates that temperature range in which the
elastomers have their full function. Lower temperatures cause reversible hardening of the
elastomers and reduce their function (for instance sealing capacity), but do not cause damage to
the elastomers as such.
The elastomeric parts may in certain cases even have a sufficient function at lower
temperatures; the operational temperature range depending on the function intended is given in
the respective Product Specification of the device.

4 Physical properties
The nominal values given on the following sheets shall be determined according to the test
methods specified.

5 Marking
The sheet samples shall be provided with a permanent marking (designation of the
manufacturer and compound as well as the date of manufacture).

6 Initial sampling
At new presentation of a material according to this specification, its technical data shall be
indicated (range and mean values according to ISO 2602).

In addition,

4 sheet samples 2 ± 0,2 x 200 x 200 mm

1 sheet sample 6 ± 0,2 x 60 x 80 mm
5 vulcanized test pieces large type according to ISO 815

shall be made available.

The supplier guarantees the customer the indicated technical data for all deliveries according to
this specification.

7 Release of a material
After positive result of the sheet sample inspection, finished parts are ordered extra for the
validation tests (life tests). The release – which only refers to the respective parts family – is
given in case of positive result of these tests.

Any modification of the compound, of its ingredients or of the manufacturing process parameters
of material or finished parts – no matter of which kind or for which reason – is only permitted
after previous release by the department that is responsible for the technical design.

8 Conditions of delivery
The material and the finished parts must correspond to the technical conditions of delivery
specified in JED-220.
