The course provides the fundamentals of electronic and electrical engineering. Electronics is the
foundational materials for computer engineering. The course provides an introduction to the design of
electronic circuits used to implement computers. Basic core material includes the electronic properties of
materials, diodes, logic families and storage elements. Towards the end of the course students are
Aims and Objectives provided with more advanced topics in design parameters, interfacing ad buses, circuit modelling and
simulation and operational amplifiers. Key introductory topics include: electronic properties of materials,
Diodes, MOS Transistors, MOS logic families, Bipolar transistors, Design parameters, Storage elements,
Interfacing logic families, operational amplifiers.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student is expected to:

 Identify contributors to electronics and relate their achievements to Computer Engineering

 Describe a transistor and its functions

 Identify storage elements

 Articulate the purpose of buses

Learning Outcomes
 Indicate the importance of designing data conversion circuits

 Identify software products used for designing and simulating circuits

 Describe how Computer Engineering benefits from electronics
