Welcome Address

Dear Delegate,

Welcome to the seventh annual PhD to Consulting Conference.

The value in earning a doctorate is not in the title itself as much as it is in the
knowledge and soft skills you gain on the way. A PhD nurtures quality like exceptional
problem-solving skills, intellectual curiosity, resilience and a drive to achieve outstanding
results. Commercial organisations and consulting firms are realising the potential of PhDs,
valuing their fresh and thoughtful approach in delivering business insights.
However, many high calibre researchers are unaware of this opportunity, finding it difficult
to locate appropriate resources and guidance to transition from academia to the consulting
world. The PhD to Consultancy Conference was instituted to bridge this gap.

First held in 2012, the PtC Conference has evolved markedly since its inception. From
just a handful of companies and fewer than 70 attendees, it has grown to a dozen
companies and more than 170 delegates. The focus of the conference has stayed the same:
to provide a platform for discussion and networking to researchers and professionals from
consulting firms. We are very proud to welcome many excellent speakers from
internationally renowned companies, many of which have made the transition from PhD
graduates to consultants themselves. Today, you will have the opportunity to learn about
individual firms and their recruitment process, how to apply skills gained in your PhD to
consulting and to make lasting connections with other attendees and company
representatives.

We would like to thank all speakers and company representatives for making the
time to be here today to share their experience with us. We would also like to use this
opportunity to express our gratitude to our sponsor, Cambridge Healthcare Research, for
making this event possible.

We hope that you will enjoy the PtC Conference 2018 and that you will be able to
leverage the opportunities offered today to build a successful career.
