Manual Introduction
The ZXSDR R8962 L23A, which adopts an integrated technologies of the digital
predisortion, high-efficiency amplifier, and SDR, is a new compact type LTE remote radio
frequency unit with 2.4 GHz frequency band. It works with eBBU to form the whole
eNodeB, which implements radio transmission for the covered areas and control the radio
channels.
This manual gives introduction on the network location, functions, characteristics, protocol
interface, index parameters and followed standards.

Table of Contents
LTE Network Reference Model ...................................................................................1-1
Baseband-RF Interface ..............................................................................................1-3
In Figure 1-1, the evolved RAN part is also called E-UTRAN. E-UTRAN contains a sole
node - eNB, proving the function of user plane RLC/ MAC/ Physical-layer Protocol (PHP)
and the function of control plane RRC protocol. The system structure of E-UTRAN is
shown in Figure 1-2.
1-1
As shown in Figure 1-2, EPC falls into MME and SGW . The interfaces include S1 and X2.
The functions of LTE network entity are as follows:
l eNodeB function
Besides the functions of previous NodeB, eNodeB of LTE also assumes most
functions of previous RNC, including physical layer function (including HARQ),
MAC layer function (including ARQ), RRC function (including radio resource control
function), scheduling, radio access admission control, access mobility management,
and inter-cell radio resource management, etc. The specific functions are:
à Radio resource management: radio bearer control, radio access control, access
mobility management, uplink/downlink dynamic resource allocation.
à IP header compression and user data stream encapsulation.
à Selecting MME during UE attaching progress.
à Routing user plane data to SGW.
à Security control.
à Idle state mobility control.
l S-GW function
à Supporting UE's mobility switching user plane data.
à Downlink packet data buffer and paging support in E-UTRAN idle mode.
1-2
As shown in Figure 1-2, BSC and RNC in 2G and 3G network are not in the new LTE
structure, but are integrated into NodeB to form eNodeB. The corresponding interfaces
change from previous Iu, Iub and Iur interfaces into new interfaces: S1 and X2. The
definition of interfaces in the E-UTRAN structure is shown below:
l S1-MME
Reference point of control plane protocol between E-UTRAN and MME.
l S1-U
Interface between E-UTRAN and SAE Serving-GW Path switching (during switching)
between each carrier's user plane tunnel and eNodeB.
l X2
Interfaces between eNodeBs, similar to the Iur interface in present 3GPP.
l Uu
Radio interface.

2-1
à It is portable to transport and flexible to install on the pole and wall, thus reducing
OPEX.
l Higher efficiency, lower TCO
à Its power amplifier adopts the most advanced Doherty PA, DPD linear technology.
à Its typical power consumption is less than 160 W.
2-2
Interface Function
l Supports dual optical fiber transmitting and receiving between eBBU and eRRU.
l Supports optical fiber module hotswap.
l Supports maximum four cascading.
l Supports standard baseband-RF interface.
l Supports transmission and receiving of the HDLC protocol.
l Supports NGMN OBRI interface protocol.
l ZXSDR R8962 L23A can automatically get its ID which is designated by eBBU, and
can then receive all the information send to the ID.
Reset Function
l Supports ZXSDR R8962 L23A soft-reset by using command.
l Supports ZXSDR R8962 L23A soft-reset remotely.
l Supports ZXSDR R8962 L23A hard-reset remotely.
l Supports reset log record.
Troubleshooting Function
l Supports loop test on cascading.
l Supports hardware auto-test.
l Supports forward link data uploading.
l Supports backward link data uploading.
l Supports digital pre-distortion data uploading.
l Supports system status indication.
2-4
Power Model
Conducts the input DC or AC power to ZXSDR R8962 L23A, and convert the DC or AC
power to particular power that will be used by hardware parts and modules.
Cavity Filter
Provides access RF filtering.
Power Amplifier
Realizes the input signal power amplification of the send/receive signal board, provides
forward & backward power coupling output interface, and provides the power detection
function.

2.8 Networking
ZXSDR R8962 L23A is connected to eBBU through optical fiber port. It supports star
networking mode, chain networking mode, and ring networking mode.
The ZXSDR R8962 L23A typical star networking topology is shown in Figure 2-6.
The ZXSDR R8962 L23A typical chain networking topology is shown in Figure 2-7.
