condition is apparently satisfied for the band fillings shown in Fig. 10.5.
Furthermore, n is fixed by Luttinger's theorem to be the same as for the
non-interacting system, thus for the resistivity p = l/o ,., (m*/m)2T2

Figure 10.6: The inverse Hall coefficient as a function of 2 (after [401]). Filled
and open circles show data taken at 80K,and 173K,resp. The solid line shows the
behaviour calculated on the assumption that each La3+ site contributes one electron-
like carrier. The observed behaviour indicates a Luttinger Fermi volume.

We show the z-dependence of the low-temperature specific heat co-

efficient y, and of the enhanced Pauli susceptibility x in the right-hand
panel of Fig. 10.5. Some of the 2-dependence is a one-electron effect,
reflecting the 2-dependence of the density of states. The continuous line
in Fig. 10.5 indicates the result expected for non-interacting electrons.
The correlation enhancement is identified as the ratio of the measured
value and the estimated independent-electron result. The data show
that both y and x are progressively enhanced as x approaches 1. Ac-
tually, as far as one is able to judge from data limited to z 5 0.95, the
observed behaviour is suggestive of a diverging enhancement of the kind
y N x (l-z)-', just what we would guess from (10.21). The approxi-

mately 2-independent Wilson ratio (upper part on the right) also shows
that, within the range accessible to the measurement, the enhancements
