STORY OF THE EYE

SCENE I

EXT.KALADHAM

A car enters a housing society, meandering slowly as it


searches for its destination.

INT. OF CAR

While talking on the phone the Asst.Producer looks out of


the window at the artworks and buildings in Kaladham, there
are no people around.

He is seen talking on the phone.


A bollywood song is blaring in the car.

Asst.Producer:- Sir, artist nahi mil raha..


google maps bhi dikha nahi raha
but I will find him sir, don't worry.

he phone call is interrupted as he spots a woman passing by.


He asks the driver to stop so he can talk to her.

Asst. Producer:- Hello!

Myself Asst. producer (gives her his card)


Aapko pata hai Artist kahan milega?

Felicity:- Artist toh andar milega.

Asst. Producer: Kitna Andar?

Felicity:- Bohot andar jana padega,chalo mai batati hun.

Asst. Producer looks at her suspiciously,


but then allows her to get in.

She opens the gate herself.


Car moves ahead.

shots of brutalist architecture.

SCENE II

EXT. ARTIST'S COMPOUND


The two enter the compound of a house, Felicity's leading
the way. She opens the front door with her spare key.
Producer looks around the artist's front yard.
They enter.

Felicity: Aap Bombay se ho kya?


Producer: Aapko kaise pata?

Felicity: Mai soongh leti hun bombay walon ko.

While they speak, they hear a whiplash from above as if


someones beating themselves self.

They both look up and Felicity says:- Aajao artist chalu


hai.

They go upstairs, enter the drawing room following the


sound.

SCENE II

INT. ARTIST'S DRAWING ROOM

Felicity and

Producer: Arey Sir mil gye aap, meri naukri bach gyi.
Anyways myself asst. producer.

The artist ignores the handshake and says: Myself budding


artist (still whipping)

Asst. Producer withdraws his hand and turns around to look


at the frame on the screen.
Asst. Producer: Aapke baare mein bohot suna tha, aaj dekh
bhi liya.
(He says this as he walks around looking at a painting on
the wall, picks a gold ball in his hand and plays with it"

Following which he spots a commode and says:-

"Sandaas bahar...(mumbles) Artist log ka to interior hi alag


hota hai"

Saying which he starts to shoot with his phone. The phone


camera captures the walls of the artist's house. This is
when through the display on the phone we see a man

A young man with a frame in his hand runs in the frame


shouting dukh le lo....dard bikaau hai and exits the frame.

Producer jumps into action, stops the man and starts taking
a video. The man poses and then exits the frame.
Producer then looks at the video he's taken and smiles.

The artist looks at the producer ceases whipping for a bit


and says: "Facebook, Instagram,...Tag Me" then continues
whipping.
The producer nods his head and makes a pressing gesture.
We hear sounds of FB likes notifications.

Producer gleefully looking at the screen keeps the phone in


and with a sheepish smile says:-
Accha ab thoda business ki baat kar lete hain...

"Mode of payment kya rahega dollar, pound, euro, bitcoin,


paytm?"

The artist stops whipping and we hear a ringtone play on the


artists phone- dollar bhi chaiye pound bhi chaiye, sone ke
sikkon ka sound bhi chaiye

He cuts the phone and says- You can't buy my ideas.

Producer: Why not?


Artist: I don't have any, been beating myself for days.
Producer (looses it): What?? This can't be true sir, Boss
will kill me sir, Kuch toh karna padega Sir.

The artist lounges on the sofa and puts his leg on the
table.

Artist:
Inspiration aa nahi raha to mai kya kar sakta hun?

As he tries to recline on the sofa Felicity comes into the


screen and throws a T shirt at him says: Tum bahar ja saktey
ho.
Yahan har ghar mein ek idea hai, aur mango, maangne se sab
milta hai.

Producer: oh....Crowdsourcing, Arey! thats trending.

Artist: Experiment...Avant Garde.. Felicity! Good Job.


(He starts wearing the T shirt which then covers the camera
and scene fades to black.
Scene cuts to them exiting the building, Artist is wearing
the same T- shirt)
As they go out we cut to a scene of Felicity working in the
kitchen and humming que sera sera...)

Cut To

They are seen exiting the house, Producer comes out of the
house first and starts clicking pictures, Artist comes a
little late and leaves the house from right, producer
realizing it follows him.

We see a shot of bricks being

As they go slightly ahead they stumble upon a construction


worker.
Artist: "Sir idhar idea milega kidhar"

Construction worker: Idea to nahi lekin airtel mil jayega


aapko, aage shop hai.

They pass by 'the three lady sculpture' which they don't


notice.
Producer takes photos of something else on his phone, While
the artist cleans his glasses even he exits.

We see CU of producer's phone screen taking shot of his own


feet, as he lifts his through the phone we see Maan sitting
and smoking a beedi in his courtyard.
(EXT.Pradeep Maans house)

We see them enter the courtyard and sit in front of him.

While smoking his beedi Maan says 5 baje ke kareeb- kareeb


kuch ideas guzartey hain...pakad sako toh pakad lo.."saying
which he continues smoking beedi.

The producer looks at the artist while the artist


looks at his watch.

They are seen walking against similar looking bricked walls


in different places that change with their steps.

The artist keeps looking at his watch.

They are being driven away by an elderly resident- Chappal


se maarunga, maine 40 saal lagaya tereko, abhi chahiye"

Moving forward they can be seen reaching the gaurd's cabin.

They stop outside.


(INT. Astrologer/ Security guard)

Producer: Ye 5 baje ka koi program hai kya?

Astrologer/Gaurd : Tumhara haanth dikhao

hari hari ghaans


Not too near not too far
aankhein band karo dekho poora sansaar.

Scene V EXT. PARK


(The dialogue from the previous scene bleeds into the image
of a tree which then reveals children playing with someone
who looks like Felicity.
We see them engrossed in the visual when the Producer
mumbles, "Is this Felicity?
Artist: You can never really tell, let's find out.

Felicity! They shout, thinking its her.

The figure that resembles Felicity turns back.


But she has the face of a moon.

Seeing this the artist removes his goggles and the producer
keeps his phone in his pocket.

Felicity comes forward and takes them to the bench and seats
them.

She goes behind and puts her hand in front of their eyes.

As she does this the screen fades to black.

We first hear the sound of children playing in the park


which then translates to the title sequence of PERSONA.

As the title ends the screen fades to white and shows the
lady with the moon face

Director's Note

The process of art needs effort, thought and time. The age
we live in has perversely reduced art, a medium of profound
expression to shallow shortcuts in order to meet demand.

The film throws light on the process of creation/creative


expression, which cannot be rushed into and happens only
after honest introspection.

The story revolves around two shallow individuals who


struggle to find inspiration around them. A compassionate
figure leads their way and help them see what they miss
owning to their ignorance. Only when they stop looking and
see things through the eyes of the mind, their real journey
begins.

Synopsis

A young producer's assistant and a visual artist struggle to


find inspiration but fail.Felicity the cook an unlikely
figure of compassion helps them out.

A young producer's assistant goes around looking for a


visual artist, he has high hopes of collaborating with him
producing a film and make a profit. He meets an elusive
woman on the way Felicity who offers to help him find the
artist. The producer does find the artist but to his dismay
he has run out of ideas. The elusive woman comes to rescue
again as she suggests they go around asking for ideas as
asking always helps. They go around town and find clues but
never get the whole picture. Their search halts at a group
of children playing with a woman with a moon face who
invites them into their world of imagination by closing
their eyes.
This is the journey.
