KEY AREAS

Job Summary:

The Beach Lifeguard will ensure the efficient operation of the Hotel/Resort’s beach safety
system.
Under direction, provides lead supervision to assigned full-time and seasonal staff; patrols
Resort beaches, parks and sea waters to ensure proactive and expeditious accident
prevention and response; responds to resort beaches, cliff and water emergencies; enforces
compliance with state and local laws. Educates the public regarding beaches and water
safety and other public safety matters; recommends purchases and/or maintains lifesaving
and other related equipment and facilities; and performs related duties as assigned.
You are responsible for leading, training and monitoring assigned full-time, part-time and
seasonal staff, as well as carrying out the full range of assigned duties in the lifeguard
function. Hours of work will include evenings, weekends and public holidays, a condition,
which is reflected in the grading of the post.

range of repairs to lifeguard stands and/or
other resort service facilities.

Manager and department policies and
procedures, performs purchasing duties for
designated equipment and training devices;
- Researches and, as assigned, evaluates
quotations; recommends the award of
quotations.

medical aid and a variety of other related
subjects;

WORK EXPERIENCE At least five years of
experience as a pool/ocean
lifeguard; or an equivalent

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this class, an employee is frequently required to
run, swim, paddle and walk long distances; stand and sit for long periods; climb or
balance; stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl; reach with hands and arms; talk and
hear both in person from close and long distances and by phone or radio; use hands
to finger, handle, feel or operate lifesaving equipment; and drive a vehicle. The
employee regularly lifts, pushes or pulls persons or equipment over 100 pounds.
Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, use of
both eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades; depth perception,
peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use
written and oral communication skills; observe and interpret people and situations;
analyze and solve problems; read and interpret data, information and documents;
use math and mathematical reasoning; perform work on multiple, concurrent tasks
with constant interruptions; work under intensive pressure and deadlines; interact
with the public, management and staff, and deal with distressed, quarrelsome or
abusive individuals.
