Mosaic Cloth

James E. Bailey
10 July 2008

The pattern used in this cloth is taken directly from the Mon Tricot Knit-
ting Dictionary with 800 stitches. I also have a copy of this book with 1030
stitches and patterns, and curiously, this pattern is missing from it. That
being said, if you have this book, you can ignore the pattern directions in-
cluded here and skip directly to the Pattern.

Basic Tunisian stitch:

Row 1: Insert hook into the 2nd ch from hook, * wrh draw
through a loop, insert hook into next st, rep from * leaving
all loops on the hook. Do Not turn work.
Row 2: Wrh draw through a loop, * wrh, draw through 2 loops,
rep from * to end of row, 1 ch.
Purl Tunisian stitch:
Make a chain. Row 1: 1 ch, * Wool forward, insert hook from

1
back through ch loop with thread under hook, draw through
a loop, rep from * leaving all lopps on hook.
Row 2: As row 2 of Basic Tunisian stitch.
The next and following alternate rows, insert hook from right to
left through the vertical thread of previous row.

Tunisian Damask Stitch

Work 2 rows Basic Tunisian stitch.
Row 1: 1 ch, * Work 3 sts Basic Tunisian stitch and 3 sts
Tunisian Purl, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 2: Work as Basic Tunisian stitch
Repeat these 2 rows once.
Row 5 and 7: Work 3 sts Tunisian Purl, 3 sts Basic Tunisian
stitch.
Row 6 and 8: As Row 2.
Repeat from Row 1.

Pattern:
Chain a multiple of 3 sts. On a size 5mm crochet hook, 36 sts makes a
medium-sized cloth (and used the entire 63m of yarn on the ball I had).
Work Tunisian Damask stitch for 34 rows or until square. Thats it. All that
explanation for two lines of pattern, I feel cheated!
