Re: Support for Mr. Adam Amador, Principal of Carlsbad High School

Dear Dr. Rodriguez and Board of Education Directors:

I have received numerous complaints from parents, students and faculty claiming that Mr. Adam
Amador, Principal of Carlsbad High School has been a victim of a vicious witch hunt by a group
of individuals that that are retaliating against him for enforcing best practices and school policy.
He has received derogatory, inflammatory, racist and hateful communications from individuals.
This is evident via the social media that concern us because some of these postings are threats
against him and we fear for his health and safety.

Our information reveals that this past spring May 2, 2018, a student at Carlsbad High School
desired to conduct a protest in support of the 2nd Amendment. He met with Mr. Amador to discuss
the concerns of safety and viable protocols with respect to the rule of law and what your District
Policy requires. This was in collaboration with the Carlsbad Police Department. Mr. Amador did
allow the walk out. However, the subject student was allegedly disruptive taking phone calls while
in class and getting the attention of others. Consequently, the student’s mother District Judge Lisa
Riley made several calls and demanded that Mr. Amador return her call. At approximately, 1:00
pm, he did return her call and Ms. Lisa Riley proceeded to accused him of bullying and suppressing
this student’s rights. It was alleged that she resorted to the use of profanity directed at Mr. Amador
and called Mr. Amador “a dumb Mexican”. He told her to have a nice day and ended this hostile
call. Ms. Riley is an elected District Judge that represents the 5th Judicial District. This alleged
conduct is unbecoming of anyone that sits on the judiciary and unacceptable behavior of any adult.
We will file a separate report to the NM Judicial Standards Council. Due to her political influence,
you the Board are being pressured to threaten the career of a highly respected educator and
administrator in this state that was acting in the best interest of your District and community. We
understand that Dr. Gregory Rodriguez, Superintendent supported Mr. Amador’s decision and
rightly so because we believe that this was a prudent decision. No one is above the law and should

be held accountable for their actions, especially, if one is being disruptive and interfering with the
instruction of others.

Next, it was reported to us that Dr. Rodriguez’ contract was not renewed due to his support of his
faculty and principal. The Board of Education has a fiduciary duty and responsibility to ensure the
safety and wellbeing of the families, students and faculty of its educational institutions. This walk
out, and protest was not impeded.

Our concern is that both Dr. Rodriguez and Mr. Amador are Hispanic and in a protected class.
They are unequivocally being targeted by this hate group because of their race and ethnicity. The
evidence is overwhelming due to what is being posted on Facebook. Judge Riley’s conduct and
actions have been despicable and reprehensible. She has emerged a hateful, relentless and racist
campaign against Mr. Amador.

We strongly urge you to reconsider any preconceived notion or position to be pressured to

separating these gentlemen. Their reputation is both staller and respected. Should you take adverse
action against these gentlemen, this will cause adverse public reaction not only in your community,
but across the entire state.

We will continue to monitor these cases. We pray and hope that you as elected officials do your
due diligence and protect the staff that are properly enforcing your policies and procedures without
the fear of reprisal for those that are acting above the law.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. My contact information is listed at the
bottom of the letterhead.

Thank you for immediate attention and consideration in this regard.

Sincerely,

Paul “Pablo” A. Martinez
