By 2nd grade, students are able to count to 100, as
well as skip count to a degree using 10s and 5s. Here
are some fun ways to teach skip counting!
Play soccer or basketball!
Dribble the soccer or basketball, with each touch skip
count! Start with 10s then go to 5s!
Jump rope!
Take turns jumping rope.  With each jump, skip count.
Start with 10s then go to 5s.
Play hopscotch!
Draw a hopscotch outline on the ground with at least
20 boxes, write the goal number at the end (ie. 100)
Take turns throwing a pebble; start with counting by
10s, then on the next turn count by 5s

Expand Kristi Leader's graphic organizer idea by telling each student to only
fill out the “first” box, and then pass their organizer down to the person next
to them. Do this until all four boxes are filled. The end will result in whacky
stories made up by four different students!
