Abstract: Olive oil is an oil that has many benefits, one of which is for skin care, olive oil contains fatty
acids and various vitamins one of which is vitamin E which is good for the skin. Skin care is
one of the nursing interventions, skin care is done to prevent skin damage. Sistematic review
This quantitative research aims to specifically describe the benefits of Olive oil for skin care,
especially for patients who experience injuries, such as pressure sores, diabetic wounds and
sores on nipple or rash. In Indonesia, the incidence of compressive injuries in patients
treated in the ICU room reached 33%, a report on the results of Basic Health Research
(Riskesdas) in 2013 showed that the prevalence of DM in urban areas of Indonesia for over
15 years was 1.5%, the Indonesian Demographic and Health survey ( SDKI ) in 2012
showed that 55% of breastfeeding mothers experienced mastitis and nipple blisters. The
keywords used are Olive oil, skin care, ulcer healing. The research data was collected using
electronic databases such as Science Direct, Google Scholar, Proquest, EBSCOHOST,
SAGE, and CINAHL which were Journal from 2008-2018. 40 articles were obtained, 20
articles were reviewed and only five articles matched the criteria. These five articles provide
information about the benefits of Olive oil for skin care with wounds.

Olive oil is an herbal product that has many
benefits, to improve blood circulation, anti-
inflammation and heal wounds (Nasiri, Fayazi,
Jahani, Yazdanpanah, & Haghighizadeh , 2015).
Olive oil is also useful for smoothing and
moisturizing the surface of the skin without
clogging pores. Olive oil is a good moisturizer to
moisturize the skin of the face and body. In
addition, olive oil is beneficial for releasing layers
of dead skin cells (Meza, T. D, 2013).
In Europe such as Spain, Greece, and Italy
Olive oil is widely used for consumption, in
addition to consumption also used skin and beauty
treatments (Madadi, Zeighami, Azimian,& Javadi,
2015). Whereas in Asia the use of Olive Oil for
beauty and health is found in many Middle Eastern
countries, such as Egypt and Arabia. Its use in
Indonesia is often found for beauty care (Nasution,
2014).
Olive oil consists of oil substances called
glesiredat (ester) with a percentage of 97% and
other oil substances. Olive oil also contains various
vitamins (such as vitamins A, B, C, D, and vitamin
E), coloring agents (such as chlorophyll,
that cause a distinctive aroma and taste. Finally
olive oil contains small amounts of minerals (iron,
magnesium and calcium), colloids, resins, and water
(Madadi, Zeighami, Azimian, & Javadi, 2015)
Skin care is a nursing intervention, skin care
is done to prevent skin damage. Patients who
experience long bed rest often experience pressure
sores. In Indonesia, the incidence of pressure sores
in patients treated in the ICU room reaches 33%
(Arisanty ,2014). Patients with diabetic also often
experience diabetic wounds, the 2013 Health
Research (Riskesdas) results report shows that the
prevalence of DM in urban areas in Indonesia for
over 15 years of age is 1.5%. The smallest
prevalence is in Lampung Province at 0.7%, and the
largest in DY. Yogyakarta Province which reaches
2.6%. While the prevalence in North Sumatra is
1.8% and in Aceh 1.8% (Kemenkes RI, 2013).
Breastfeeding mothers also often experience
skin damage or nipple wounds, the Indonesian
Demographic and Health Survey (SDKI) in 2012
showed that 55% of breastfeeding mothers had
mastitis and blisters, possibly due to lack of breast
care during pregnancy therefore skin care is one
way to prevent injury.
 2 METHODE
Research methods used is literature review.
Literature review was obtained from searches
of electronic databases such as Science Direct,
Google Scholar, Proquest, EBSCOHOST, SAGE,
and CINAHL which were published from 2008-
2018. The keywords used include Olive oil,
integument care, and ulcer healing.
There are 40 articles according to the
keywords, then evaluated into 20 articles and then
re-evaluated into five articles

criteria The following inclusion criteria were
identified: 1) Articles published were original data;
2) the article discusses the use of olive oil for skin
care with wounds, and the effects of olive oil for
wound healing 3) research involving respondents
who suffered skin injury or skin damage from
various countries.
4 SEARCH RESULT AND PROCESSES
Searching for articles with keywords and
publication dates from 2008-2018. Abstracts of
articles adapted to inclusion criteria were then taken
for consideration. There are five articles with
quantitative research that meets to be discussed.
The research characteristics are listed in tabel 1.

Research design is quantitative, research comes
from several countries, namely Iran, India, egipt
and Spain.
The sample in the study was 34 respondents
up to 300 respondents. The sample of this study
were respondents who suffered injuries and needed
skin care. Measuring tools used by The Braden
scale, Wound healing observation check lists, foot
ulcer healing checklists, Ordinal scales, and The
pressure ulcer score by NPUAP.
Olive oil is administered varying from two
times a day for seven days, to one given once a day
for four Sunday. The results showed Olive oil was
good for skin care with wounds.
6 DISCUSSION
The results of this literature review show
that skin care with olive oil can heal wounds. Olive
oil has benefits as an anti-inflammatory, promotes
circulation and heals wounds. The purpose of this
study is to see whether the use of olive oil can be
used for skin care with wounds.
These five articles relating to Olive oil show
the results of using Olive oil, a study conducted by
Aziza, Nahal, Nabila, & Wail (2011), with the aim
of looking at the comparison of olive oil ozone with
the effectiveness of diabetic grade 1 injury
towounds. diabeticgrade. Olive oil ozone ointment
is faster for healing diabetic grade 1 than
conventional dressing.
Research conducted by Nasiri, Fayazi,
Jahani, Yazdanpanah, & Haghighizadeh (2015)
with the aim of looking at the effect of olive oil on
diabetic wounded patients. There is an effect of
olive oil for healing in wounds in the lower
extremities in diabetic respondents.
Research conducted by Madadi, Zeighami,
Azimian, & Javadi, (2015) with the aim of looking
at the effect of olive oil on compressive wound
prevention inrespondents intensive care. Giving
olive oil has an effect on the pressure wound
prevention inrespondents intensive care.
Research conducted by Hawaibam,
Tryambake, & Memchoubi (2016) with the aim of
the effect of massage using olive oil on the
prevention of pressure sores in bed rest patients.
Massage using Olive oil affects the healing of
compressed wounds.
Research conducted by Cordero, Villar,
Barrilao, Cortes, & Lopez (2015) in order to
determine the effect of Olive Oil on skin damage or
injury to the area around the nipples of
breastfeeding mothers. The results of this study
suggest that there is an influence of Olive Oil to
cure skin damage or injury to the nipple area of
breastfeeding mothers.
The research design was carried out with
quasi-experimental,techniques experimental and
randomized controlled trial. Olive oil has many
benefits for the skin and more hospitals will apply
skin care using Olive oil.
7 CONCLUSION
This review shows the results of five studies
regarding the use of olive oil, olive oil has benefits
for the treatment of skin that is injured.
So far, nurses rarely prevent pressure sores by
combining mobilization and skin care with the use
of olive oil, so researchers can do whether the
effects of mobilization and use of olive oil can
prevent pressure sores on stroke patients who are
immobilized and bed rested.
