For Laredoans who aren’t able
to make it to Austin this weekend
for Austin City Limits (ACL),
don’t fret — B Live Promotions is
bringing down five indie bands
that will be playing live at Old No.
2 Grill & Café, beginning with a
show Saturday.
Southern garage rock band
Those Darlins, from Murfreesbo-
ro, Tenn., will be at the venue Sat-
urday, sharing the stage with
Shapes Have Fangs from good ’ole
Austin
Those Darlins banded together
in 2006, and have set out to get
folks dancing hard with their row-
dy, cheerfully sarcastic and booze-
fueled show.

Those Darlins’ curious mix of
classic country punk and ragged
garage rock makes them one of a
kind, eliciting comparisons like,
“The Carter Family meets The
Black Lips.” In 2009, the girls (and
a guy) toured feverishly around
their critically acclaimed debut,
playing 140 shows and sharing the
stage with the likes of Dan Auer-
bach (of The Black Keys), Deer
Tick, King Khan & BBQ Show,
Wanda Jackson and Jon Spencer.
They made huge waves at
SXSW, Bonnaroo, and Garage
Fest. 2010. Their full schedule has
had them selling out venues with
an Eastern headlining tour, in-
cluding gigs in Atlanta, Chicago,
Boston, Washington DC, St. Louis,
Louisville, Birmingham and
Nashville.
Tickets are $10 and doors open
at 10 p.m.
On Tuesday, Oct. 12, The Soft
Pack, a band making waves in the
indie world, is taking the stage at
the Old No. 2, with a little help
from Laredo’s own Automatic
Weekend.
And if you thought of live mu-
sic in Laredo couldn’t get any bet-
ter — it can.
The show is free.
B Live Promotions is allowing
invited guests in from 7 p.m. to 9
p.m. and the standby line will get
in at 9:30 p.m.
Last but certainly not least,
Deer Tick, all the way from Provi-
dence, Rhode Island, will be play-
ing at “the deuce” on Thursday,
Oct. 14, featuring opening band J
Roddy Waitson and the Business.
For that show, doors open at 10
p.m. and tickets are $10.
Deer Tick is an indie folk band,
that combines a little folk, blues,
country and rock’n’roll. Deer Tick
has been compared to the likes of
Bright Eyes, Modest Mouse and
Uncle Tupelo.
