 Write a prayer for a Yr 4 student containing 2 or more intentions


 Create a Prayer Card that contains 2 images of Catholic symbology ie: Cross, Dove, Chalice, Eucharist

11.00 Motivation and Introduction: where they will be introduced.
Year 4 students are preparing to receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist.
As a loving gift, the Yr 6 class will be writing a prayer for the Yr 4 class to
help them in their preparation to receive Jesus in their heart for the first
time.
 Students form a circle on the mat
 Light Prayer candle
 Students wishing to pray for the intention of another may share
their intention if they wish
 Commence with the Lord’s Prayer

11.05 Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

 ‘Why do you think prayer is important?’
 ‘How do you think prayer helps us?’
 ‘Who receives our prayers?’ ‘How do you know your prayer has
been received?’
 ‘How do you think the Yr 4 students will feel when they receive
your prayer?’

 A basket containing all of the names of the Yr 4’s is passed


around.

 Each student draws out a name and writes a prayer for that
person.

 Students are given a few minutes of silent reflection to remember


their experience of receiving the Eucharist for the first time.

 Students are asked to think about some of the things that made
them feel nervous, scared, happy and excited about receiving
their first Eucharist.

 Write these student offerings on the white board.

 Write a prayer opener as a guide on the board – a hard copy is


available for students who may require one.

 Students who feel confident to write their own prayer may do so!

 Drafts are written first. Once draft prayers are checked and
edited, students can begin to create their prayer card.

 Students are encouraged to use Catholic symbols in the design


of the card.

 Templates are available for students who wish to use them.

11.35 Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

 Students are asked to stop where they are. Time will be available
to finish the cards during the week.

 Would anyone like to share the prayer they have written?
 Has writing this prayer helped you to feel closer to God?
 Does praying for others feel different to reciting prayers given to
us by God? How?
 Do you think it is important to do both?
 In what ways do you think the world would be different if
everyone prayed as Jesus would like us to? (Write student
responses down and add to class Wonder Wall called ‘The
Power of Prayer’) – relates to B2.1
