Expectations:
 Reverence
 Respect- for teacher and peers
 Quite voices

Have students bring images brought from home of their relatives

(grandparents, parents, siblings) onto classroom mat.
Seating arrangement
 An inclusive circle

Focus questions

 How does this relate to the current unit of work being explored in
RE at the moment

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

Introduce and read the biblical recount “In the Beginning” from the book of
Genesis 1:26-27.

Questioning:

 Where does Genesis belong in the Bible? Old or New Testament?

 What kind of information is delivered in the book of Genesis?

Teaching points:

i. Using a reverent and quite voice

ii. Demonstrating to students the correct way to interact with the
materials

After reading the story, begin with a wonder question then leave some time for
reflection before the discussion

I wonder how God is present in each and every one of us?

Discuss how it is God’s spirit that is present and not his physicality that is passed
onto us

I wonder if you know someone that reminds you of God’s love?

Discuss extrinsic goodness and how each of us is shaped in his likeness. How
does that person show you they are living out God’s plan?

I wonder how you feel when someone says ‘I forgive you?’

Discuss that even though we are made in God’s image and likeness doesn’t
mean we can’t make mistakes from time to time. Does that make us a bad
person?

I wonder if any of you think of God when you see the natural wonders He
created?

Reiterate my connection with God when looking at the stars in the night sky. In
times of complication I look to the stars for guidance from God much like people
look for guidance to certain destinations by looking at the stars.
I wonder how people can be like God?

List the possible ways.

Acceptance

Love

Respect for natural elements

Discussion of task and prior wonder question about the presence of God in
the things he created.

Class brainstorm some of the things each of the creations offer

neighbour and serve others needs before his own

E.g. Water- to drink much like Jesus was able to quench the thirst of the needy

To cleanse- Jesus was able to clean the feet of his Disciples to serve their needs.

Complete the Placemat task in groups of 3.

 Serves the whole world in one of the spaces (Jesus sees all as equals
and the sun doesn’t just assist some, it serves every person on this
Earth)
 Radiant in one of the spaces (Jesus beams out to all as he stands forth)
 Students can draw images that correspond and any explanations they

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)
Have the students lie flat on their backs arranged around the classroom.

Guided reflection based on the story of Creation

Lay comfortably on your back with your legs uncrossed, hands on your stomach
and your eyes closed. Focus on your breathing.

Breathe slowly and deeply… breathe in … breathe out… breathe in… breathe
out… breathe in… breathe out

You are now walking through a grassed paddock…

Jesus is guiding you through beautiful places…

Jesus walks with you across green fields …

Jesus shows you the fruits and berries He picked…

Juicy and full of life…

Jesus takes you to a stable where piglets are feeding from their mother…

Jesus leads you to a mountain peak…

You are on top of a mountain peak..

You look up to the beaming sun…

You feel the warmth of the sun on your cheek…

Your eyes closed and you see a white light from the suns strength…

Guiding you gently…

Treating you kindly…

Jesus guides you to a large body of water…

The water is clear and calm…

The water is filled with schools of fish…

Jesus guides you back to the green paddock…

Here he meets his brothers and sisters…

There smiles are inviting and warm…

Begin to move your toes…

Your fingers…

And when your ready to open your eyes and join us once again the classroom
you may do so…

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)
