Dlubal software is based on a modular system. There 1. Main Program RFEM 6
are two main program families: RFEM and RSTAB. 1.1 Add-on Modules - Steel RF-STEEL 10/12
Each family is made up of the main program RF-STEEL EC3 13
and its add-on modules. These modules RF-STEEL AISC 15
are either integrated into the main RF-STEEL SIA 16

Main Program
FEA Analysis

FEA Analysis for Plates, Walls, Shells, Solids

and Frameworks

RFEM is used to define structural sys-

tems, materials and actions of planar
and spatial constructions consisting
of plates, walls, shells and members.
Furthermore, RFEM determines defor-
mations, internal and support forces
as well as soil contact stresses accor-
ding to the FE method. Creating
combined structures as well as mo-
deling solid and contact elements is
also possible.
Due to the use of multi-core proces
sor and 64-bit technology, efficiency
of calculation algorithms is especially
emphasized.

combination with members.
In steel design, RFEM analyzes frame
work structures as well as connec-
tions modeled in detail such as com-

columns on tanks.
Basically, RFEM has been conceived
as a software for structural engineer
ing but can also be used in other
fields like mechanical engineering,
plant construction or glass design.
The modular structure of the RFEM
program family allows you to cus
tomize the software according to
your individual needs. Various addi
tional modules are available for
design and structural analysis.

Fatigue Design for Members and Sets of Members
With the add-on module RF-/STEEL

Fatigue Members you can perform
the fatigue design according to
EN 1993-1-9 for steel members
and member sets.

The fatigue design according to

EN 1993-1-9 is based on the nominal
stress concept. The internal forces
are determined according to the
structural analysis for members. The
stresses are calculated according to
the mechanics of materials at the
location where the crack formation is
expected.
This means that the ranges of the
nominal stress Δσ and Δτ as a result
of the actions are contrasted with
the design values of the fatigue
strength ΔσR and ΔτR.
Furthermore, the concept of the
partial safety values applies in

RF-/PLATE-BUCKLING
Plate Buckling Analysis of Stiffened Plates
Steel

RF-/PLATE-BUCKLING is used to
perform the plate buckling design
for rectangular plates according to
EN 1993-1-5 and DIN 18800-3. The
plates can be reinforced by horizon-
tal or vertical stiffeners. The load
on the plates’ edges can be user-
defined as well as imported from
RSTAB/RFEM.
The plate buckling analysis always
takes into account the entire panel
because in this way the existing stiff-
eners are considered in the FE model.
Thus, you can do without a design
for single (c/t) parts or buckling panel
sections.

RF-MOVE Surfaces
The surfaces on which the load is
moving are selected graphically
in the RFEM model. It is possible
to define a load on a surface with
several different sets of movements
at the same time.
You can define the „lane” by using
sets of lines. They can be selected
graphically in the model. The moving
step of single load steps is also
specified.
RF-MOVE Surfaces provides several
load types such as single, linear,
rectangular, circular loads as well
as different axle loads. They can
be applied in local and in global

RF-STABILITY
Critical Load Factors and Buckling Modes for Structures

The RFEM add-on module

RF-STABILITY determines the criti-

with the general stress analysis, for
structural components subjected
to compression.

The structure’s stability risk is re

presented by the critical load factor
of the entire system. The respective
buckling mode gives you information
about the risk-bearing area in the

exchange data. The add-on module
RF-LINK allows for the import of
IGES, STEP and ACIS files. Due to
these file formats you can import
the model’s geometry in the form
of border lines and surfaces.

The quality of the model depends on

the application used for the export.
Only files can be considered for the
import process. The corresponding
file formats are commonly used in
mechanical engineering.

RSIMP
Generation of Equivalent Geometric Imperfections and Pre-deformed
Initial Structures

Download the current product overview at www.dlubal.com

RSIMP is a powerful RSTAB add-on
module used for generating equiv-
alent imperfections (equivalent lat-
eral loads) according to Eurocode 2,
Eurocode 3, DIN 18800 or DIN 1052,
or for creating a pre-deformed ini-
tial structure in RSTAB.
Depending on the setting, RSIMP
evaluates the deformations of an
RSTAB load case, buckling modes cal-
culated by RSBUCK or eigenmodes
determined by DYNAM Basic. The
program uses the deformation, buck-
ling shape or eigenmode respectively
for the imperfection‘s orientation.

RSBUCK
Effective Lengths, Buckling Loads, Bifurcation Load Factors
Others

Based on an eigenvalue analysis,

the RSTAB add-on module RSBUCK
determines the buckling shapes of
a structure modeled in RSTAB. The
program calculates for each mem-
ber the structure-specific buckling
lengths and loads including the re-
spective critical load. The critical
load factor for the entire structure
is displayed additionally.

The results from RSBUCK can be used

for further stability checks such as
the flexural buckling design according
to EN 1993-1-1 in the add-on module
STEEL EC3. The buckling shapes can
also be used for the generation of
equivalent imperfections with RSIMP.

SUPER-RC
Superimposing Results of Different Structures (Construction Phases)
The RSTAB add-on module
SUPER-RC facilitates the challenge
to consider construction phases
with varying structural and loading
conditions as they may occur in
bridge construction or in other
specific fields of civil engineering.

In the modeling process, you create

a base structure in the same project
but under different structure names.
It is then modified according to the
construction progress. For defining
the super combination, you take into
account the various structures with
the individual construction or opera-
tion phases. The loads are superim-
posed in a similar way as for com-
mon RSTAB result combinations.
Different construction and operation
phases may have different geometric
boundary conditions: The structure is
supported differently, members may
have been added or removed. When
determining internal forces, SUPER-

Dragon Flight, X-Train Flying Launch Coaster,

Product Overview
Ningbo, China
In many industrial sectors, China is
the future market. This is also the
case for the entertainment field in
which the German company
Maurer Söhne is working. The roller
coaster Dragon Flight was built
for Romon U-Park, an urban theme
park in Ningbo. It is the first X-Train
Flying Launch Coaster designed by
Maurer Söhne.
The roller coaster has a length of
504 m. Its seven roller coaster ele-
ments include three inversions. The
X-train has a capacity of 20 passen-
gers. With top speeds of 90 km/h,
the train reaches up to 4.5 g (g-force)
several times.

Structural System
The base area is 113 m × 51 m. At the
Representation of design ratio for fatigue design acc. to GB 50017 (1 kN = 1 %) on 3D model
highest point of the coaster ride, which displayed in RSTAB (screen shot: Dlubal)
is called the top hat, a vertex height
of approximately 30 m is reached. The
overall structure consists of a tubular
structure with 6,201 members and
86 cross-sections.

Structural Analysis
The rail structure was calculated in
RSTAB. Both model and wheel loads
were directly imported from the dy-
namic simulation by using RS-COM.
The analysis was performed accord-
ing to Chinese and European stand-
ards, including ultimate limit state
design and fatigue design.
The German engineers accessed the
RSTAB results by using RS-COM again
for the fatigue designs. Then, the de- Building owner

the civil engineering market.
The names Dlubal, RSTAB and RFEM
have become synonyms for structural
analysis software because of its qual-
