Irish Crochet
Friday • 1 to 4 pm • Oct 12
Come make an Irish crochet rose and leaf with Laura Ricketts,
author of Irish Crochet Cuffs in July/August 2015 PieceWork
magazine. You’ll work 3 pieces to create your three dimensional
flower: the outer petals, the rose center, and the leaf. While you’re
working on your class project, Laura will share her knowledge of
the history of Irish Crochet.
Traditionally this type of crochet would have been worked in very
fine cotton or linen. Your learning piece can be worked in a smooth
sport weight cotton or wool. Students must be very comfortable
working chain, single, double and half-double crochet.
Laura teaches at Nordic knitting conferences across the country.
We’re fortunate that she lives nearby and can teach regularly at
Sheep’s Clothing. She’s had many articles published in PieceWork
and Knitting Traditions magazines. She loves to help people learn
from and be inspired by our knitting and crochet cultural heritage.

Cocoknits
Julie Weisenberger of Cocoknits has created a top down, seamless
sweater making system that imitates the look of a set in sleeve. It is
a perfect technique for enjoying a fiber while making a quick, simple,
classic sweater.

Sometimes seamless sweaters suffer from lack of structure that

causes them to lose shape. Julie Weisenberger has conquered this
problem by adapting the English Tailored Shoulder to hand knitting.
Her techniques give your sweater good bones, providing structure
and support in the critical shoulder area.

The goal of this class is to get you comfortable with the Cocoknits
basic sweater system and help you see how you can easily make
small modifications to get the sweater you want. Julie's methods
will help you think about gauge in a new way, knitting yarns at looser
gauges than the ball band suggests. There will be sweater options at
3, 4, and 5 stitches per inch.
