Rewritten Goal for Intro: Today, I want to share 3 laws all individuals should know to stop from
being misinformed.
I. Intro
A. Absurd police brutality
i. 987 people killed by police (2017)
ii. 46 police officers killed (2017)
B. Media portrayal
i. Focused on officer misuse of force
ii. No force would be used if basic understanding of laws is given.
C. Goal
i. So today, I want to discuss with you the importance of knowing the law.
ii. ~~Add some kind of fear factor- make them ‘wake up’~~
II. First Body Paragraph (Law One)
A. First Amendment
i. Thousands riot because of your misunderstanding of the law.
ii. This behaviour is protected by First Amendment Rights.
iii. Most understand First, but not the Fourth.
B. Fourth Amendment
i. What is said by the Fourth Amendment?
a. Right to unlawful search and seizure.
b. Contains basics of police authority and protocols.
C. Exceptions to Fourth Amendment
i. Right to restrictions on search and seizure can be revoked
ii. Immediate threat is occuring, can and WILL be prevented.
iii. Search and entire person if anything is found in their property. (See and Smell)
iv. Example??
D. Transition
i. Often, brutality because of actions against the officer.
ii. More often, citizen doesn’t know limitations of Fourth Amendment.
III. Second Body Paragraph (Law Two)
A. Drafts & State vs. Federal
i. Fourth drafted in 1789
ii. First Justification law in 1992
iii. State based, Federal laws only affect Federal officers.
