OBJECTIVES

At the end of the day, the students should be able to;

1. Identify the different System of Measurement.

2. Convert English to Metric System
3. Appreciate the importance of measurement.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

A. Topic: System of Measurement
B. Reference: Learning Module
K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum (T.L.E)
Pages 58 – 61

C. Materials: Chalk, Ruler, Visual Aids

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer
Please lead the prayer.
(The student will lead the prayer)
2. Greetings
Good morning class!
Good morning ma’am!

and throw it in the trash can)

Please take your seats.

Marie? Is anyone absent from
the class today? No one is absent today ma’am.

B. Developmental Activities
1. Review
Last week we had a discussion
about measuring tools and
instruments.
Okay, what are the different
types of measuring tools and
instrument?
Test light, pull push rule, micrometer, wire
gauge and ruler/foot ruler.

Very good! You already know

the diff. types of measuring
tools and instrument.
2. Motivation
Can you measure the units
with or without measuring
tools?
No ma’am.
Why did you say so?
It will be hard to measure.
C. Lesson Proper
Can you please read the
meaning of measurement?
It is the process or the result of determining
the ratio of a physical quantity, such as a
length, time, temperature, etc. to a unit of
measurement such as the meter, second or
degree Celsius. The science of measurement
is called “metrology”.
What is metrology?
It is science of measurement. It establishes a
common understanding of unit, crucial in
link activities. A system of weights and
measures.
That’s correct! Next, what is
system of measurement?
Is a set of units which can be can be used to
specify anything that can be measured.
So, we have two linear
measures.
Do you know what those are?
English and metric system.
Very good! Now, what is
English system?
It provides the creative way on how people
can measure by themselves.
That is correct! It means that
without using measuring
tools, we can still get
measurement by using our
own body parts.

How can you measure inch?

By using our thumbs.
Very good! How about yard?
By using our wingspan.
How about foot?
By using our feet.

The second type is the Metric

System. Can you please read the
definition of this?
It is a decimalized system of measurement,
It exists in several variations with different
choices of base units. Metric units are
widely used around the world for personal,
commercial and scientific purpose.

 Millimeter
 Centimeter
 Decimeter
 Meter
It is correct, we need to use a
specific measurement for a long
measure
Next is, English units and each
equivalent.

 12 inches
It is equal to 1 foot
 3 foot
It is equal to 1 yard
 1 yard
It is equal to 36 inches

Next is the Metric units and each

equivalent. Give the equivalent of
the following:

 10 millimeter
It is equivalent to 1 centimeter
 10 centimeter
It is equivalent to 1 decimeter
 10 decimeter
It is equivalent to 1 meter

English to metric equivalent.

 1 inch
It is equal to 2.54cm
 1 foot
It is equal to 30.48cm
 1 yard
It is equal to 91.44cm

D. Application
Board work.

1. 5 inch
12.7 cm
2. 4 feet
121.92 cm
3. 3 feet
91.44 cm
4. 2 inch
5.08 cm
5. 6 yard
548.64 cm

E. Generalization
Again, what are the two linear
measurement?
First is the English system and second is the
Metric system.
Always remember that English
system provides the creative way
on how people can measure by
themselves and Metric system is a
decimalized system of
measurement.
What do you think is the
importance of measurement?
A measurement is the action of measuring
something or some amount of stuff. So it is
important because we cannot get the
amount we’re finding if we didn’t use
measurement. We can get the amount of
certain things such as distance, time or
length without measuring it.

F. Evaluation
1. 10 feet
304.8 cm
2. 70 cm
700 mm
3. 15 inches
1.25 ft
4. 5 meters
5.468 yd
5. 20 meters
20,000 mm
