1. Give at least 3 Mathematician which gave contribution to the development of

Trigonometry

Hipparchus of Nicaea

Hipparkhos; c. 190 – c. 120 BC) was

a Greekastronomer, geographer,
and mathematician. He is considered the founder
of trigonometry but is most famous for his
incidental discovery of precession of the
equinoxes.

He developed trigonometry and constructed

trigonometric tables, and he solved several
problems of spherical trigonometry. With his solar
and lunar theories and his trigonometry, he may
have been the first to develop a reliable method
to predict solar eclipses.

Francois Viete

Viète wrote books on trigonometry and

geometry such as Supplementum
geometriae (1593). He gave geometrical
solutions to doubling a cube and trisecting an
angle in this book. Viète also published
the Canon Mathematicus in 1571 which was
intended as a mathematical introduction to the
astronomy treatise. The Canon
Mathematicus covers trigonometry; it contains
trigonometric tables, it also gives the
mathematics behind the construction of the
tables, and it details how to solve both plane
and spherical triangles.
Leonhard Euler

Euler was a prolific mathematician whose

work spanned the fields of geometry, calculus,
trigonometry, algebra, number theory, physics, lunar
theory, and even astronomy.

Euler’s formula:

2. Define Trigonometry

Trigonometry is a branch of mathematics that studies relationships

between the sides and angles of triangles. Trigonometry is found all throughout
geometry, as every straight-sided shape may be broken into as a collection of
triangles.

3. Cite at least 2 importance of Trigonometry

 Trigonometry is one of the most important fields of mathematics,

particularly for careers in physics, engineering, geography, astronomy,
and architecture.

 Trigonometry helps in measuring the height of a building or a mountain

important for aircraft design and navigation. It is also used by developers
in video games.

 It is used in music production by sound engineers to visualize sound

waves so that they can adjust volume, pitch and other elements to create
the desired sound effects.
