Abstract. Geothermal is a renewable and sustainable energy that can be used to replace fossil energy in the
future. Geothermal energy can be used, it must meet a geothermal system, a geothermal system is a general term
used to discuss the interaction between system of rock with a high water temperatures. Indication of a
geothermal system is usually marked by the appearance of the surface manifestation, can include hot springs,
fumaroles, mud pool etc. The presence of hot springs and fumaroles in the area of Mount Ungaran is a strong
indication of subsurface geothermal potential. This research was conducted to investigate the geothermal
energy below the surface and create a model of the geothermal system based on analysis of geological,
geochemical and geomagnetic survey. The geology of Ungaran it self composed by Tertiary volcanic rocks from
Miocene to Pleistocene, allegedly heat source in Ungaran is a remnants from young Holocene Ungaran.
Structure in Ungaran controlled by faults oriented southwest - northeast, which is part of the collapse structure,
this structure is suspected of being the discharge area, so fluid and vapor from the reservoir out through a weak
zone and appear on the surface. Geochemical analysis with fluid sampling at Klepu and Gedongsongo showing
a difference, Gedongsongo showed a higher sulfur content (alkali) range between 545.328 ± 22.519 ppm, while
Klepu more indicative of bicarbonate fluid containing HCl at 598.214 ± 37.881 ppm. From Geomagnetic map
showing low magnetic degree ranges from -185 to -3.3 nT interpreted as heat source in Ungaran, after use
filtering with Upward Continuation distribution of heat source extends to the north of Gedongsongo. From the
analysis of geological, geochemical, and geophysical prove their geothermal potential Ungaran with the
instructions that come in the field.
