GENERAL INFORMATION
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (“the Embassy”) is looking to hire a locally recruited Political
and Project Officer (“PPO”).

The PPO assists the expatriate staff in its work related to supporting the democratic transition process,
including the rule of law and human rights. Tasks include – but are not limited to: following, analysing, and
reporting on relevant political and social developments in Tunisia; drafting speeches and providing input for
meetings of the expatriate staff; attending and reporting on relevant conferences and meetings; organizing
Embassy meetings, events and incoming missions; contributing to press reviews; contributing to the social
media accounts of the Embassy, etc. In this context building and maintaining a solid network of contacts in the
political field and within civil society is a prerequisite.

The PPO is also responsible for the implementation of Embassy program funds. The two largest are the
“Shiraka” (Arab-Dutch partnership) program to support sustainable transition and the “Human Rights
program”. Other smaller budget lines are focussed on cultural development and public diplomacy &
communication.
Tasks of the PPO include – but are not limited to: pro-actively searching for potential partners and promising
projects; assessing project proposals and advising the Embassy and the Ministry on their suitability;
monitoring the implementation of the projects and assessing interim and final reports; meeting with
organizations to present the policy and strategy of the Netherlands; represent the Embassy at events related
to the projects; carrying out the required administrative tasks related to the projects’ approval and closing
procedures (drafting internal approval documents, contracts, amendments, etc.).

The PPO also assists the expatriate staff in the implementation of the larger-scale, multiannual
program fund related to ‘Human Security and Rule of Law’. Tasks can vary from administrative/technical
support (arranging meetings, archiving files, drawing up contracts and amendments, etc.) to tasks such as
reporting on the progress of projects, liaising with partner organisations, attending and reporting on events,
providing communication around projects, etc.

As a member of “One Team” Tunis, the PPO also performs a large number of diverse and ad hoc tasks,
including drafting official Notes and other correspondence in the French language, (helping in) organizing and
supporting incoming visits and the national day celebration, organizing events and meetings.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
• University Degree in a relevant field
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
• Knowledge of the political and social-economic context and developments in Tunisia
• All-round mentality: willingness to carry out tasks ranging from administrative to analytical
• Fluent in spoken and written (Tunisian) Arabic, English and French
• Analytical and writing skills

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Tunis represents the interests of the Netherlands in
Tunisia. The Embassy is situated in Cité el Mahrajane, close to the center of Tunis. The Embassy has 18 staff
members (6 expatriate – 12 local) for Tunisia and 5 staff members (3 expatriate – 2 local) for Libya (temporary
relocation from Tripoli). The staff will most probably be expanded in the near future. The Embassy applies the
“One Team” approach. This means an atmosphere of trust, transparency and cooperation amongst all staff
members. Each staff member, local and expatriate, is valued for taking on responsibility, initiative and a
willingness to show flexibility in order to guarantee a high quality of output for the Embassy customers. The
Embassy works closely together with colleagues of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Netherlands.

CANDIDATE PROFILE
The successful candidate is an energetic, social, proactive person with good organisational capabilities and
political insight and awareness. She/he must demonstrate sufficient initiative and a flexible attitude given the
broad spectrum of tasks. He/she must be able to cope with stress and stressful situations and be able to work
independently. Work experience in an international environment as well as knowledge of public affairs is
recommended.

The gross monthly salary for a 38-hour workweek can range between 3.151 DNT and 4.726 DNT per month,
depending on experience.
