ABSTRACT
This article is part of a research project entitled The end of the century narrator: towards
a morphology of perversion. Our theory states and examines the architectural profile of
the narrator and the listener and proves their existence within the Latin American
narrative of the end of the twentieth century. Within this narrative, the narrator and the
listener become conscious of its fictional condition and go through tridimensional
scenes acquiring fractal, and hologram related properties. The listener is a complex
being that is not always present in the books, it has been studied by many researchers,
widely described and closely related to the narrator. However, the listener appears
occasionally in different epochs. This is extremely curious, because, in such cases, it
works as a collective voice that disqualifies the narrator’s authoring and that is
transformed incessantly either in a narrator, a character or, sometimes, in a reader.
Key words: listener, narratology, narrator, fractal, contemporary Latin American
literature.
