Questions 36-40

Read the passage and answer the questions that follow.

All human beings need to eat and drink to live. A balanced diet is extremely important
because if we do not eat properly, we may fall sick. It is easy for us to know when we do not
feel well. Our temperature may rise, we feel tired most of the time, and most of our joints
ache a little. How do we know if animals and plants fall sick? They are living things too and
they need to eat and drink to live.

Animals are similar to us when they eat and drink but plants do something else. The
roots of the plants are like sponges. They soak up the moisture in the earth so that the plants
themselves will not be dry.

The moisture from the roots will then travel upwards through the stem and continue
until it reaches the leaves. If the leaves are green, we know that the plant is healthy but if they
are yellowish in colour, the plant needs either more water, air or sunlight. They breathe
through their leaves but humans breathe through their noses.

The sun is also important to plants because without any sunlight, plants cannot grow.
Tropical countries like Malaysia and Indonesia have lots of greenery because the plants
receive sunlight all year round. Even though animals and plants do not look like us, they are
still living beings. They need to eat, drink and breathe just like us .

36 Which of the following is true ?

A Only human beings need to eat and drink to live.

B If the leaves are yellowish, the plant is healthy.
C Tropical countries do not receive enough sunlight.
D All living things cannot live without food, water and air.

37 In the second paragraph, They refers to

A the roots
B the trees
C the animals
D the flowers
